this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; OK guys, here's who I think the Saints MIGHT want to consider... Backup QB: Brad Johnson, or the return of Jeff Blake. (Both UFA) WR: Burress is out there. Ike Hilliard or Jurevicius might be better as a 3rd WR ...

OK guys, here's who I think the Saints MIGHT want to consider...
Backup QB: Brad Johnson, or the return of Jeff Blake. (Both UFA) WR: Burress is out there. Ike Hilliard or Jurevicius might be better as a 3rd WR (in terms of value). OT: McDougle or Womack would be nice. DT: Chartric Darby is interesting... LB: Hartwell, obviously. Bell, Polley, Anthony Simmons... S: Anybody realize that Sammy Knight is available? A return? CB: If these guys hang around much longer the Saints would be crazy to pass them up - Ty Law, Andre Dyson, Fred Smoot... Wow. (McKenzie, Smoot, Dwight Smith, Sammy Knight).... uuugggghhhhh.... |

Smoot! Smoot! Smoot! Smoot! Smoot!
It\'s a shame Smitty\'s not still around. Remember when he offered a six-pack and his dog to Washington for Smoot a few years back? It was during the draft. I still smile when I think about that. Damn, wish they\'d taken the offer. |

Damn Who, still loving on Sammy Knight huh? I wish he would have stayed, but at this point I don\'t want him back.

I\'m ok with Knight (at this point I think he and Bellamy would be roughly interchangable, but Sammy is more exciting), but that would really require us to get a good CB.
I\'m good with Smoot (or Dyson). I don\'t think we\'ll get a DT in FA. There just isn\'t that much left, though I agree Darby might be ok. Also, I\'m sure the FO will buy this Sully carp. We still have Lielse and Green (and even Whitehead) who are all serviceable at DT; I just don\'t see us getting another \"possible\" guy. Womack! Do it! Let\'s get Hartwell (or trade Howard for Urlacher... ) |

In my opinion we should only bring Sammy back just for depth at the position, especially if Gleason really does leave. Bellamy, although he\'s lost many steps, he\'s very serviceable in run support. Now with the Smith signing, we might be able to create a couple of more turnovers making both sides of the ball look a little better. It would be nice to see Mitchell finally develop though, because he hits like a beast. That remains to be seen though I will never give up hope on him unless he\'s cut.
I would love to sign one of those corners... but unless we trade Howard soon, we probably won\'t even get an oppurtunity. We had 8 million under the cap and we\'ve signed two free agents. Let\'s just say their cap charge is around 5-6 million total, we would need some more money to sign all our draft picks and backup players to fill the depth chart. Hopefully signing Mayberry and Smith wasn\'t our offseason because we still have some work that needs to be done. [Edited on 8/3/2005 by papz] |

Knight had a great Season last year...he can still play..But..I would rather just get a solid Rookie addition to play safety..and be done with it..
Maybe Howard could be dealed for a young Qb?...it would be really ideal to have someone with potential backing up Brooks..I would hate to see the team do so well in free agency and the draft..all to see it crumble due to one injury...If Brooks should happen to go down..we would really be in trouble... I know it\'s impossible to account for every injury that may happen...but...that is just too big a risk to ignore any longer... |

If we could just get either a solid back up for Brooks...and/or a quality guy to play LB...we would be for the first time in a long time, real contenders... |
