this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Agreed lee. I am not as optimistic as some on the board, but there were definitely some positives, especially Thomas....

Thomas will shine. That catch was sick, even fooled Bellicheat.

I don't know what kool-aide everyone is drinking but I seen nothing that leads me to believe we are improved over last year.

Yeah there are a couple of players that looked like we did well in the draft with but we do that every year or so.

Euphoria,

Nothing?? Rankins speed and quickness off the line? Davison push into the backfield? Edebali ability to sack the QB by 3 Mississippi? Waay less defensive penalties throughout the game? Inside run, ability from Danny Lasco? Erik Harris (safety) ability to close on the defender in space? Jack Allen looked good in the second half @ the center position. PJ's instinct to make a play on a screen ?? How about TommyLee on that jet sweep (2 point conversion)? We have far more than a couple of players that are improved this year @ pre season game #1 vs last season.

This team is headed in the right direction (specifically on defense), but to say you have seen nothing is quite surprising.

I agree. We definitely have some players that are definitely better than what we previously have had. The Pre Season isn't really the best indicator, simply because we didn't even face Brady, Edelman or Gronk last night.
However, I will admit our 1st Team D looked more cohesive than last year. And the new front four on D, definitely had more pressure. I'll wait until Preseason Game #3 to make my judgment.

Preseason game 3 should give a decent indication of what we really have. I didn't get to see the game but listened to the 1st half. From what was said the D seems to still be giving yards up to running plays and alot of dump offs to rb.'s and TE's, thats not what I wanted to hear, our lb'ers need to do much better in that area and our front 4 also. Tackling needs improvement too. Brady would have eaten that up if it was a real game. 5 yrds a carry by any team will wear our D out early and we all know how that goes. Penetration seemed better from what was said so that was a plus.

Oh that is very fair!

I mean you can even say nothing really matters until we see them in regular season games. All we have to really judge is the guys who are on the bubble of making this team. Some of them looks great but you can also see the issues that have plagued us over the past few years still here and that should still cause for concern.
