this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Well that just shows that defense can improve as much as it wants it's not gonna help the offense on it's own. Defenses responded aggressively to ours....

Re: Good bad ugly
I'm wondering if some of y'all even watched the same game I did. Our defense looked great, with mostly backups.
It was a typical preseason game, but there were way more things to like than dislike |

Re: Good bad ugly
I paid more attention to the defense ...
Rankins (intense motor) and Fairley looked good and will cause issues for offenses. Edebali has improved his game this off season. Will be a threat. Davison may become a beast int he trenches as he was constantly in the back field. Our young rookie corners are learning (sure there is work to do but it's a start). Rarely did you hear PJ Williams named called. That's a good thing. James L is a not a fast guy but he COMMUNICATES on the field. Guys weren't out of position or incorrectly lined up. Saw some nice good things stuffing the run early on. Starting defense played well. I'm encouraged with the progress Coach Dennis is making thus far. They will continue to improve. Oh and this without our best defensive player .. Cameron Jordan. Side note: I hope Stephone Anthony is ok. I understand he was carted off last night right before the half. I did notice offensively that COLEMAN could be in trouble. His game is not where it needs to be. He rarely reacts to the ball and doesn't seem to use his large frame in tight windows. This guy should be dominating in the flat. TommyLee or Harris could take his spot if he's not careful. On the flip side ... MICHAEL THOMAS aka MR. ROOKIE is good. He is fearless and makes big catches. The stage isn't too big for him. I really like his style of play & swagger. His future is bright. Improve, stay healthy and get better every week is my hope for this team. |

This is why you don't read to much into what you hear coming out of camp.
The only two things I head from camp that actually made sense based on the game was WR Thomas and WR TOMMY LEE. None of the rest matched to what I saw on the field last night. |

Re: Good bad ugly
Grayson - I just didn't see anything that would warrant keeping him. Maybe practice Squad if he lasts that long but didn't see much growth. He needs to come out and make statements that he can be a back up and even take Bree's spot when he retires and not seeing it.

Re: Good bad ugly
It was a Saints game without Brandon Browner anywhere on the field or sidelines, therefore I was very interested in watching the defense again.

Re: Good bad ugly
The first 3 series for the Pats amounted to 25...I didn't think the starters on d played bad at all. The Dline looked very good. The 2nd qrter things fell apart some, we let up a td and fg and they had 192 yards of offense. I truly felt the interior pressure, especially from davidson was good. Edibali had two sacks. Fairley looked quick to get inside on a few plays, too quick on one that he over ran the play. I saw reason for optimism on D, but let's see how we continue and what happens in the dome week 1
