Its a blow, but its not devastating.

It's devestating not having your predicted starter starting that NEVER works out, & if so name a time I like Richardson there but Jenkins isn't going to suffice there a reason we drafted Rankins where we did or even bringing Kevin Williams back would soften the blow but the damage is done

Kevin Williams has signed a one day contract with the Vikes and has announced his retirement.
Done deal guys.

I keep saying it but I wish they would look into the strength and conditioning program. Injury is a part of football but it seems like we have more than our fair share.

strength and conditioning has nothing to do with a bone breaking...

The Broncos lost Vance Walker for the season due to a torn acl. The Bengals lost Andrew Billings, most likely for the season, due to a torn meniscus. Both happened today.

I hate that Rankins got hurt, but I'll take a broken bone any day over what either of the above suffered. Not to mention Kikaha. Even if it takes the full 8 weeks we still get close to 3 quarters of the season with him. We may not have dodged the bullet, but to quote the black knight, "it's just a flesh wound."

Yea you are right about that. Still though most are muscular or tendons and it seems like we always have an abundance. A break is kind of a freak thing. I didn't really think about that.

I thought it was already predetermined that he was done for the year.

How do we take injury out of the equation?
WE can't. #2s and 3s will just have to get it done.
A little help from our defense is all we need.
We have young guys and veterans down.
I think we have met our quota.
It would be nice if this was the end, but not likely.
Jordan getting back up to speed, revitalized Fairley with others...
I'm still hoping for vast improvements on defense.
My fingers and toes are crossed.

I think our defense will almost definitely vastly improved. It's a shame that in spite of that our offense will have to play better than Last year if we want it to translate into more wins.

He's in for surgery asap and then it's a 6-8 week recovery time.

Not promising anything, but T.O had the same injury in 2004 and came back 6 weeks later recording 144 yards in a superbowl.

Re: Sheldon Rankins Injured

Well, the Saints shored up the interior of the line with not one but two picks, so don't forget David Onyemata...

You also have C.J. Wilson who wasn't going to make this extreme overnight makeover of the interior defensive line...

Fairley is just going to play 20% more snaps and you'll have Onyemata and C.J. Wilson to rotate at the 3-tech...

This is a great opportunity for Onyemata to develop faster and for us to find evaluate if we need another 3-tech to really improve the D...

Don't forget Wilson had the same role on the Packers Superbowl Winning team and we're looking at him now as our 3rd string DT...

Fairley, Davison & Jenkins will be very capable of taking care of business while Rankins is out.

Saints have solid depth at the position.

solid depth? hmm that is debatable but OK

Shame I was hoping for a big crow sandwich on this pick

guess I can wait to thaw it for a later date

With Ellerbe and Laurinatis out there it's not a loss the Saints can't handle. But, it's a big loss. If he can come back healthy for atleast half the season, it will be plus.

Davison/Nick Fairley combo is by far better than what we had in 2015.

After that it is a lot hopes and prayers (Onyemata and C.J. Wilson) or the same old same old for the saints (Jenkins).

Fingers crossed and placing my faith in DA

So he might be back after the bye week. The good things with broken bones is that if that is the only injurie, no ligaments or anything it usually heals and then you are fine and ready to go.

6-8 weeks... full recovery

6-8 weeks.

there's a lot of people on this board who have either never played football,
nor broken anything big. You're not really jumping up and down, and you
really dont feel like mashing it up, when the cast first comes off... You feel
more like you've just landed on another planet, and you're lucky, if you can
move the limb a fraction of its normal range.

Hopefully, he'll heal fast, but Im just being real.

Well I broke my fibula AND dislocated my foot playing football back in 2009. I went to a national team camp and competed for a spot a mere 8 weeks later and I had nowhere near the quality of rehab that Rankins will have access to.
I was walking without a cast 2½ weeks after the injury happened.

Everybody heals differently but if he "only" had a broken fibula and no other damage I am very optimistic about his recovery.

The thing that surprises me most is that Sean Payton is actually talking to the media about it.

Something has him in a GREAT mood, and I hope it's this defense.

RIP Matt Ryan, visitation will be Sept. 26th and Jan. 1st.

I broke my pinky finger in High School. I was unable to play College ball or Pro ball after that.

I don't think the Failclowns or Panthers have dealt with a single starter getting injured yet. Tampa is dealing with JR Sweezy being out for a little while but otherwise we seem to have the least luck this offseason.
