Re: Keenan Lewis Released

in my opin this is nothing more than a guy who threw a tantrum and then got rewarded and hasn't truly seen the field since. I don't think he has much left personally.

Wow, that's a minimal cap hit compared to what we've been accustomed to lately...

Wow, that's still a shock even though it was our only option lol

Step up young guys!

And I don't know if you can even do that if you were to find an interested party. I don't think that you can trade an injured player, i.e. he has to pass the physical examination by team doctors.

he was trying like crazy to get Rob to throw him a bone. I can't imagine there will be a ton of interest because of the injuries, but maybe I am wrong

I don't like this. Why not IR him and let him get 100%? I know what kind of CB he is healthy.

I'm not sure about Keenan regardless, he showed he could be a very good player but as soon as we made some team-first moves he turned into a whiny little cry baby.

Let's move forward with the young guys, they all seem hungry for success.

Re: Keenan Lewis Released

I like him. Great player when he was on the field. I wonder if he couldn't get along with DA because DA wouldn't kiss his ass and patronize him like RR did with all his players. I'm sure he made that statement hoping to hook up with him in Buffalo.

And as far as I'm concerned, there's too many players today that put themselves first before the team. If he and DA didn't see eye to eye, I can't think of a reason why. Did DA tell him that he was going to be cut if he couldn't get on the field? Then KL didn't want to risk further injury? Because that's what I think happened. So he got cut and he's mad at DA.

Another bad decision with Mr. Benson's money.

I think so to.

Re: Keenan Lewis Released

It was not a bad decision. The deal was bad. We have had a string of these contracts where players have way too much leverage and it hurts long range.

Re: Keenan Lewis Released

I don't like this move. I know PJ has looked in pre season but pre season and regular season are too different animals. With Keenan and Breaux, we had two CB's who are well versed in NFL offenses. I just hope that Keenan doesn't sign with a Rival and come back to bite us in the Azz.

You forgot that he practiced. Even though it was one day, he was already off of PUP. And once you come off PUP you cannot go back on it.

Only options at this point to keep him on the team was IR or a roster spot. Couldn't afford the roster spot with the young guns pushing and if put on IR would not be back this year.

Lewis now has the ability to work his way back to health and then pick the team that he thinks he can contribute to. BTW there's nothing that says that 10 weeks from now that is not in fact the Saints. It doesn't look like he burned a bridge.

SFIAH

I wasn't aware that he made it to practice.

And, yes, he could even have a wink, wink deal with the Saints to return while not costing a roster spot while rehabbing.

CB Keenan Lewis told me he has been released by the Saints. He insisted that he is excited and ready for a fresh start, understands the business and thinks Saints were ready to move on with their young corners.

Lewis also said they weren't arguing over his injury rehab, but he let the team know he wanted to wait until he was back close to 100 percent instead of being a part-time player at 70 percent. He said he is eager to catch on with another team and show the Saints they made a mistake.

Sounds to me like this was a Saints decision that KL didn't really agree with.

Re: Keenan Lewis Released

Payton wanted to put him on IR or the PUP but Lewis wasn't having it and he ran to the media telling them he'd be ready to go for week 1. You know Payton isn't having any of that. Lewis made their decision for them by protesting through the media.

He hasn't been healthy in two seasons and to think that he will be the same player after knee and hip injuries is a long-shot...

Talented fan-favorite corner and then the injuries pile up and force the inevitable. Same with Greer and Mackenzie.

I love his passion for the game and will never forget him pleading to get back in the game after they took his helmet away after a concussion. He was a nice surprise at his first TC.

So far we've got good looking potential to replace him.

I'm grateful to him but I see him in a different light now.
Good luck and thanks for your support. :bng:

Am I the only one that isn't 100% convinced Breaux is going to be a legit good starter? People act like he will get out there and do what Greer and Lewis did. He had a good rookie season last year but we had a really bad defense. I'm not sure he didn't just stand out because he was the best option on a really bad defense.

The only thing I worry about is him locating the ball over his shoulder at times and yellow flags. I feel like I'm nitpicking, but other than that, I think he's great.

True, many said it was one of the toughest thing to translate from CFL to NFL. They are allowed to be more physical in the CFL.

But he's now had a full year to improve and you could see him getting better and better as the year progressed.

I'm optimistic about Breaux/PJWillimas at CB, Swann at NB, and Finnegan, Harris and Crawley as back-ups.

Its an awfully young group and they will make some mistakes. But they still may be better than anything we've had in years.

Was it chemistry with new DC? Was it his injury(s) and slow recovery? Was it the fact that he's 30 and it's unknown if he'll ever be close to 100% again?
I'd say Yes, Yes, and Yes.

Next!

truthfully mitch, you're right. The fact that he can't get back on the field and it has been knees, hips, now the abdomen, it just doesn't sound good. Yeah I am sure he could come back and play great, but what are the odds. In '13 he was one of the best in the league.

Think we are learning our lesson in terms of contracts? BTW- I also wonder if he was a malcontent as well? Part of the JR crew?

Sounds like he's finally breaking down and the Saints know it.

With so many great young prospects waiting their turn it really makes sense.

Much respect for Westbank. He gave it his all for us.

I too was surprised. However when you think about the injuries and lack of playing time lately along with him not getting along with Allen, it makes sense.

Well, another screwup by Loomis. Give him more guaranteed money and cut him within the year.

I still don't think it was a bad deal. Nobody can anticipate an injury.

As I just referred to in my previous post, this is by no means a screw up by Loomis. You cannot factor an injury into the evaluation. It had nothing to do with the deal. Injuries are simply a part of the game. You can hate on Loomis all you want, but this isn't on him at all.

I didn't, that's true. He had played hurt for us and gave us his all. Heart is not an issue with him, but eating more dead money is getting old

We only have $1,305,000 in dead money left on the books after this season. I think we can absorb a little hit, especially given the fact that the cap will increase again next season by about twice what the cap hit will total.

Cap is no longer an issue with the Saints. I know that's difficult for some to realize with all the misinformation that has been spread by talking heads that know less about the cap than they know about humility.

You and I have discussed this quite a bit on here, both of us on the same side with it. i realize it, but nonetheless it still sucks. what will he cost against cap this year and next? Let's hope he isgns with buffalo to offset the cost
