Keenan Lewis Released
Wow! Didn't see this coming this soon. |

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
He must really be hurt...
|
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
How is this going to hit the cap
He still had a load of guaranteed money left |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Too much upside to the newbies to keep him I guess. Not enough room on the roster for him when he's constantly hurt. At least he went out with class. Of course he's still getting paid....so I guess that helps.

Im not sure hoe it works if they are injured but he had just over $7ml in dead money left

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Sounds a bit of he wanted IR come back when ready. Team wanted him in earlier and sick of injuries.
Time for Williams to step up Mike Triplett ESPN Staff Writer CB Keenan Lewis told me he has been released by the Saints. He insisted that he is excited and ready for a fresh start, understands the business and thinks Saints were ready to move on with their young corners. Lewis said he felt like he never meshed with DC Dennis Allen and that he was closer with former DC Rob Ryan. But said he has utmost respect for Sean Payton and his hometown organization. Lewis also said they weren't arguing over his injury rehab, but he let the team know he wanted to wait until he was back close to 100 percent instead of being a part-time player at 70 percent. He said he is eager to catch on with another team and show the Saints they made a mistake. |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
This guy was our only decent corner besides Breaux last year. They must really like the young guys if they are letting him walk away .
|
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Or they know they'll have to stick him on IR but want Rankins back meaning Lewis would miss the season anyway
|
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Wow. Well...unexpected, but probably for the best. Good luck in the future Keenan.

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
If you designate him a post June cut thats what you pay this year. It just pushes the rest till next year. Pushing cap into future years, that'll be it. Same story different year

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
I'm thinking the hip was just too much of a concern to wait on. We'll see....

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Explains the Cortland Finnegan deal. Keeps that veteran presence in the locker room cheap. That report seems to suggests a disconnect between Lewis and Allen.
Good luck to him, well as long as he digns outside the NFC South |

Circle back to an earlier post from Danno. PJ has clearly been our #2 corner so far in camp. KL simply hasn't been 100% in 2+ seasons. If you listen at some of the early sound bytes from DeVante, PJ, Pruitt & Crawley in camp, they speak highly of Breaux as a leader... KL not so much. It was a good ride & I enjoyed watching KL play but I think it was time for them to move on. Most of us here didn't really expect him to play much in 2016 any way. I wish Keenan well though going forward. |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
What if Breaux or Williams get hurt?
|
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Giving in to that guaranteed coin feels mighty stupid right now.
Personally I wish him the best. Professionally - thanks for nothing post ultimatum. |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Dont think you can blame him for being injured. He tried to play through them maybe too much at times

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Too many injured bad enough to put on IR And make eligible to come back?
|
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Rankins will be the one they want back off IR

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Guess he was too hurt.
When he got hurt our secondary got weaker than it's already poor performing self. |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Im guessing the idea is to just go Williams and Breaux as 1-2 with Swann/Finnegan in the slot and not look at the svrubs left on the street or is a vet getting a call

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Honestly i cant remember exactly how it works. I thought he'd have to be on IR at the start of the season then come back of IR or am i wrong?

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Was is that you can't go on PUP if you've participated in the preseason practices?!
|
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
Quote:
Any player who practices with a team during training camp is not eligible to be placed on the PUP list, and the team has to either cut him or put the player on injured reserve. |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released

You forgot that he practiced. Even though it was one day, he was already off of PUP. And once you come off PUP you cannot go back on it. Only options at this point to keep him on the team was IR or a roster spot. Couldn't afford the roster spot with the young guns pushing and if put on IR would not be back this year. Lewis now has the ability to work his way back to health and then pick the team that he thinks he can contribute to. BTW there's nothing that says that 10 weeks from now that is not in fact the Saints. It doesn't look like he burned a bridge. SFIAH |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
I was hoping against reality that he would contribute at some point this year.
We all saw the writing on the wall via rumors and sources, but it sounds like, perhaps there was one more "malcontent" that needed to go when you add KL's comments to Triplette about wanting Ryan over Allen. Dunno. I have a feeling that the spin machine on both sides will be heard from soon. |

Re: Keenan Lewis Released
""It's a business. They can't wait on one player. They gotta do what's best for them, and I gotta do what's best for me," said Lewis, who said he still has the utmost respect for head coach Sean Payton and the Saints organization -- but added he didn't feel as comfortable over the past year, especially after Ryan was fired.
Lewis, who began his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with his hometown Saints in 2013, said he never had any specific arguments with Allen, who joined the Saints staff as a senior assistant in January 2015. But Lewis said he heard through other people that "I wasn't his guy." Lewis also said he thinks the Saints were "obviously having problems with my injury situation." The Saints have not commented on Lewis' release, but the decision likely was made for chemistry reasons as much as football reasons." Keenan Lewis released by New Orleans Saints |

Again who knows what the truth is. |
Re: Keenan Lewis Released
His comments also lower my opinion of him. I was willing to give him the Benifit of the doubt when he whined about his contract. It was kind of unclassy but he could play so I didn't care. The Saints bent over backwards and probably bumped some other guys of the roster to meet his demands. Now this, which sounds like it's a matter of his opinion and inability to fit in with change. Rubs me wrong.
