Murphy Yes or No?

I'm going with yes. Made some mistakes, also injured would be a better option for the skatback if Spiller goes down. Cadet can get it done but way more upside with Murphy. Cadet is tapped out.

Murphy and cadet both could go and it wouldn't be a Huge loss. Guys like them are a dime a dozen could be picked up later on would rather hold onto or make room for a defensive player or a guy for the oline

He does not have the speed. If he had that no way. Not sure how to justify it other than his catching out of the backfield at this point. He seems to be better at it. Muffing kicks though really dragged him down.

Both can go. We need the extra spots on DL with the signning of Chris McCain and secondary with Cortland Finnegan. Tommylee Lewis can take over on kick returns while Spiller can take over cadet role

Murphy is a no. He really isn't needed at running back and for punt returns and kick returns is a major liability.

If I had to make the decision right now... I'd let Murphy go. I just don't see much value there.

I remember Beer Man was muffing kicks but he had blazing speed and could be a receiver if needed. I'm not even sure Lewis could make a team today with the returns being marginalized.

Only way is if we run into injury problems then he gets called back.

Re: Murphy Yes or No?

I have to say no on Murphy. I liked him last year in pre-season but when the season started, though he had some moments, he reminded me a lot of Reggie Bush with the poor decisions. For all his speed, he just didn't know how to run to daylight with any consistency. And now this preseason he has shown very little, and is fumbling. Payton has never been very forgiving of fumblers, unless their name is Marques Colston.

But for me, I just don't see him making any real impact. Offensively, he has yet to show that he can contribute anything there. His speed and athletic potential would probably keep him around if it weren't for the log jam we have at the RB position. Lasco is likely to steal a spot because of his special team prowess, and I think that effectively nails the door shut for Murphy.

Well, Murphy's primary problem is putting the ball on the ground...

There's the legend of fumble whisperer Tom Coughlin and how he turned around RB Tiki Barber who was notorious for putting the ball on the ground at the worst times - not that there's ever a good time...

If you can solve that problem, you'd have a RB/RS in the mould of Darren Sproles - a player type the Saints have really missed...

I'd day Coach Payton has to decide if Murphy's talent is worth it to spend the time with him to cure the fumblitis...

Re: Murphy Yes or No?

Is he really anything like Sproles, though? He returned one for a TD against Carolina, and had a few pretty decent run backs in other spots, but he seemed mostly ineffective other than that. I'm not seeing a guy who's consistently threatening teams with his ability. A lot of east and west running. To me he's just plain getting out played. The fumbles are only making it worse.
