New Orleans Saints set 53-man roster for regular season
 

The New Orleans Saints on Saturday established the initial 53-man roster for the 2016 regular season.

While the roster should be considered fluid before the regular-season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 11, the Saints currently have 24 players on offense, 26 players on defense and three specialists.

The Saints can still tweak the roster after the waiver process expires Sunday, and the 10-man practice squad, which can be established Sunday, is also pending.

In the meantime, here is how the roster breaks down by position:

Quarterbacks (3): Drew Brees, Luke McCown, Garrett Grayson

Running backs (5): Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower, C.J. Spiller, Marcus Murphy, Daniel Lasco

Fullback (1): John Kuhn

Tight ends (3): Coby Fleener, Josh Hill, Chris Manhertz

Man I hope Loomis finds a way to land Sitton. We could really use the help on the line. And I'm happy Landon Turner made the team. He just needs to continue to develop and get better.

Bummer about Hooman, but I'm not overly worried about the TE position.

I hope so. I don't get all the love for Vaccarro. I hope Harris makes him expendable. I wouldn't mind seeing Bell there also.

I don't know where all of this thinking is that the QB's are getting killed. First of all, it was only the preseason and the eventual starters may have played ten snaps together in the four games. Secondly, the Saints QB's were sacked ten times in the preseason. Nineteen of the 32 NFL teams allowed nine or more sacks during the 2016 preseason. Only SIX allowed fewer than seven sacks. The Saints QB's were hit no worse than the average.

Lol I was joking, seeing as how I agreed with not keeping 3 QBs. Which is also a fact. But keep blowing up in spectacular fashion, it's all in good fun

I see the Jets have cut Khiry Robinson. Would you take him back over Hightower or is he still suffering from that leg break.

He was cut because of lingering injury issues he has not been able to overcome. Last thing we need are more damaged goods, especially since our RB's are pretty solid as is.

Same thing going on with Spiller. A cloud of injuries that will likely manifest.

Reason why we got Murphy. Put the ball on the ground but it was a fluke. Normally he is money.

I'm more worried about our lack of size - you got a rookie in Thomas that's 6' 3" and what, Coleman?!?

Redzone or trying to convert to run out the clock, you really want to throw to Coleman with the game on the line?

And if the apologists throw in Fleener, let Mullet prove he can make the grab when it counts, not garbage time...

I love our first three, but we have nothing after them...

Agree with Fleener.
Thought it was a strange pick up with his drop issues. Fleener + Spiller salary = Elite Guard.


Do you think Khun was partly brought in for Red Zone targets?

He was pretty good from what i remeber at the Packers

Nope. He re injured his broken leg earlier this preseason vs Philly.

Lee, Kuhn wasn't brought in until Austin Johnson was injured and out for nearly two weeks...

And the Saints staff love 'em or they wouldn't have brought him onto the practice squad...

Johnson is a throwback as he played running back and linebacker at RockyTop U so he's valuable in the kicking game as well...

I'd bet that with Kuhn's age, Johnson will be back by next season and our starting fullback again...
