The New Orleans Saints on Saturday established the initial 53-man roster for the 2016 regular season.

While the roster should be considered fluid before the regular-season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 11, the Saints currently have 24 players on offense, 26 players on defense and three specialists.

The Saints can still tweak the roster after the waiver process expires Sunday, and the 10-man practice squad, which can be established Sunday, is also pending.



In the meantime, here is how the roster breaks down by position:

Quarterbacks (3): Drew Brees, Luke McCown, Garrett Grayson

Running backs (5): Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower, C.J. Spiller, Marcus Murphy, Daniel Lasco

Fullback (1): John Kuhn

Tight ends (3): Coby Fleener, Josh Hill, Chris Manhertz

Man I hope Loomis finds a way to land Sitton. We could really use the help on the line. And I'm happy Landon Turner made the team. He just needs to continue to develop and get better.

Bummer about Hooman, but I'm not overly worried about the TE position.

I hope so. I don't get all the love for Vaccarro. I hope Harris makes him expendable. I wouldn't mind seeing Bell there also.

I don't know where all of this thinking is that the QB's are getting killed. First of all, it was only the preseason and the eventual starters may have played ten snaps together in the four games. Secondly, the Saints QB's were sacked ten times in the preseason. Nineteen of the 32 NFL teams allowed nine or more sacks during the 2016 preseason. Only SIX allowed fewer than seven sacks. The Saints QB's were hit no worse than the average.
