Jahri again?
Saints bring in a slew of player for workouts, including Jahri Evans
The Saints kicked off their offseason by releasing veteran guard Jahri Evans, who eventually went on to sign with the Seahawks before getting cut at the end of the summer. That leaves Evans as a free agent looking for work, a quest that brought him back to New Orleans on Tuesday. According to multiple reports, the Saints worked out Evans as part of a session that featured numerous familiar names in search of homes for the 2016 season. The Saints have struggled to find the right combination on the interior of their line with 2015 first-round pick Andrus Peat, Tim Lelito and Senio Kelemete among the options. Nick Underhill of the New Orleans Advocate reports that Khalif Barnes, who was cut by the Saints over the weekend, was also part of the workout. Wide receiver Rueben Randle, most recently of the Eagles, took part as well and Underhill adds long snappers Aaron Brewer and Thomas Gafford; offensive linemen Mike Liedtke and Bryce Harris; cornerbacks Darrin Walls, B.W. Webb and Sterling Moore; and wide receivers Nate Washington and Greg Little to the list. Some of those workouts are likely about updating emergency lists, although the Saints have already made some changes to their 53-man roster so some players at the bottom of it could be in danger of losing their jobs. Re: Jahri again?
If he's 100% healthy, maybe. But he was just as bad or worse than Lelito and Kelemete last year.

Re: Jahri again?
I said in the other thread post week 1 and the contract is non guaranteed he offers good veteran depth at worst

Re: Jahri again?
Johnathan Goodwin anyone?
|
Re: Jahri again?
At this point I don't care. Go ahead and sign him. It's not gonna be pretty either way.

Well he would even a this point be a better back up if its cheap than you are likely to find on the street. It would be different if you had a young G who looked on the brink of being a starter then he clogs up the roster. Also in helping bring the group along. Who is there now with a veteran head that say Turner can watch at what to do,who is there to teach him the little tricks to make him better. If the cotract is cheap and weekly post week 1,i dont see the harm even if its just for a few weeks |

You're not teaching anyone anything if you're not good at your job. So Turner is gonna watch Evans get pushed around, how is he learning anything? |
Re: Jahri again?
By that example can Payton teach anyone about being a QB?
Can Aaron Glenn teach people about being a DB as he cant do it anymore? There is more to help teaching youngsters than them watching you on field. Its helping them to prepare properly, watch to watch for on tape, little tricks you can help them with on the practice field. Its part coaching part depth cover for the team |

Re: Jahri again?
The Saints are bringing back their Pro Bowl guard Jahri Evans. He signed with the team today, according to a league source.
Evans was let go in the offseason as a cost-cutting measure, but he is going to be able to come in right away and start this Sunday for the Saints against the Oakland Raiders. Evans was in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks, but did not make their 53 man roster, and was susequently released. He was in a tryout yesterday and is now officially a member of the Saints. WWL - AM870 | FM105.3 | News | Talk | Sports - Jahri Evans Back With The Saints If, and its a big IF, he is healthy I think this can be really good. His production slowed down mostly by injuries. If nothing else, after spending most of the preseason with the Sehags he should be able to give the coaches a bunch of input on their playbook for when we play them in week 8. |
Re: Jahri again?
Evans wasn't released by the Saints because what we had was better. He was released because he wouldn't take a pay cut. Now he is still better than what the Saints have and he has taken the pay cut. He was rated at #28 OG by PFF so that still puts him better than half the OG's in the league. That is not desperation. That is taking advantage of the opportunity of his release by the Seahawks.

Re: Jahri again?
Don't forget that Evans played with basically one hand last year. He had that addressed and should be improved.
|
Re: Jahri again?
Guess he should've waited to sell that house after all. Well, welcome back. You're probably better then anything we have now. If he can be solid, we're gonna be much better.

Re: Jahri again?
Folks,
I think what most posters are getting at is that it's not all about Jahri (he was solid here for years), or Lelito, Sitton, Schwartz etc. The season is less than 5 days away and we have been bouncing/shuffling players & looking for a starter for a key position on the line. The FO could and should be doing a better job. We are starting to see the consequences of bad contracts, poor signings, dead money etc. The guard "situation" could have been avoided a couple of seasons ago IMO. Hoping for all the best on 9/11. I'm ready :peace: . |
Re: Jahri again?
Evans hasn't actually taken a pay cut... He'll still be making the dead money from when we cut him.

Re: Jahri again?
If it keeps Lelito or Kelemete off the field then I'm all for this signing. He played hurt last year apparently......I didn't know that. If his injuries are still lingering his play will still be effected. I wonder what the Seahags saw that made them release him? Regardless he is a plug and play player for a line in desperate need of help. Armstead/Peat/Unger/ Evans/Strief will be an adequate line if peat continues to improve at LG. Evans and Strief on the right side may need additional blocking but Payton can game plan for that. Overall I would feel much more comfortable about our offensive line. It keeps me awake at night now.

Re: Jahri again?
First of all, you might think you won here but you did not say he would come back NOW. You said he would come back right after the draft. He did not come back until the guards we signed did not pan out(well, yet).
Personally I think Turner will take over by the mid point. And if Jahri starts missing games, then that is where you will start to be disappointed if Turner is yanked around when he's able to start. |
