I think there's more than meets the eye with the Saints cutting him. From:
Jahri Evans declined New Orleans Saints' pay-cut offer, agent says | NOLA.com
Evans was scheduled to count $8.2 million against the cap in 2016. The Saints saved $3.1 million against the cap by releasing him.

The move had added urgency because $2 million of Evan's base salary would have become fully guaranteed on Wednesday (February 2016). Additionally, a $1 million roster bonus would have taken effect next month (March 2016).
So the team and Evans disagreed on his value for 2016. He was cut because of it. The market set his value. Presumably the Saints got him back at a fraction of the original value. One last item from the article, which explains why Evans wasn't willing to take a pay cut:

"He's healthy and hungry and looking forward to the next chapter of his career."
We will soon see if that is in fact the case.

I am the first to admit that the O-line has looked uneven in preseason. But I'm a bit more hopeful now. From now on the first string is going to be playing the majority of the snaps. Come Sunday we'll have essentially the same starting line we ended with last season. And last season that line contributed to a top 10 offense in most measured offensive categories. So I look forward to seeing similar production as in the last 5 years. Couple that with even a moderately improved defense, and I like the Saints chances to be in the mix in 2016.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

I agree.

Let's be 100% honest, we did not want Jhari back. We wanted to part ways and move on. We had no choice but to bring him back because neither of the other two that were given a chance were worth shat. I mean I have never seen so many damn people coming through our line. It took a while for our offense to get going last season. If you think and remember back people kept wondering why we were throwing so many screens and short passes. People started sayinmg Drew has lost his arm etc etc, but the real reason was our line couldn't give enough time so everything was a screen or short pass.

I don't know what Jhari has left, but I know he sure as **** can't be as bad as lelito and sele (whatever his name is). The oline scared the hell out of me in preseason. I have never seen it look that bad. I keep hoping Jhari can get it done. He doesn't have to be all pro, just decent and if peat is decent we should be able to move the ball.

If things do work out with the line and we are competitive this is by no means some ah ha moment for the sunshiners because we had to bring someone in to fix that **** we saw in preseason. I hope the plug works.

I think the Saints gave Lelito an opportunity to step into the starting spot and he failed. I think he's proven himself to be a career back up

Re: Evans back.

Lelito has definitely been a liability in coverage. Back up material at best.
