Our front 7 has been easily upgraded
They may not be better straight away, but I believe the young guys like PJ Williams will grow into the position. I just hope that a game plan has been put in place where PJ isn't left alone on an island, they will challenge him and it would help him immensely to have safety help over the top just until he gets comfortable. |

Here's the thing about the preseason games vs today...
The Saints coaches will be game planning for the Raiders vs Preseason Opponents where players were put in situations to see how they'll respond... |

I guess Rickey Jackson does know what he is talking about after all.
Defense is still a problem in New Orleans. |

Re: Saints great Rickey Jackson doubtful defense will be any better this season
A defensive mentallity left New Orleans a long time ago and hasn't returned since. A great D feeds off of each other like clockwork, I know you know how it goes but people see a high powered O scoring a bunch of points which is a good thing but it's really just half of the equation without the other half doing their job it's all in vein. I blame alot of this on Payton thinking all he needs is a few stops in a game to win. I think he probably thinks his O is superior to every D they face and if this is the case it's certainly not shown over alot of seasons. I truely think if we could have fielded a true top 15 D since he's been here people would be talking dynasty and a few more banners would be hanging in the dome.

The refs stole this game, but we do need some kind of pass rush

Re: Saints great Rickey Jackson doubtful defense will be any better this season
I think Payton has been contracting out the defense to people who have
spent most of their days scheming and implementing defenses. He's had some trouble finding a contractor who is as good as he is. The other problem is Payton's offense has 75% of the budget(+or- 2-3%). If we ever get back to middle of the pack on defense, we will be back in the mix. The 60/40 pass/rush mix doesn't help either. Defense can't even hydrate before being back on the field again. The talk about balance on offense just has not materialized. And I've been waiting a longggggggg time. |

So his offensive line has no run mentality. They don't even show up with a mind to control or push the line of scrimmage. They show up on their heels ready to pass block. The problem with that is you can't just flip the switch on 3rd-and-1 (3rd-and-goal) and do something that you never intended to do. We see it week after week. Teams know Brees is going to throw 40 times. They worry about the run as an after thought, and it's still not a problem. |

We produced more than 400 yards through the air, and before you come back with "yeah but then why did we lose" that is easy, the other team gained just under 500 yards and scored 35 points. ![]()
The offense and play calling was of no issue. These are NFL players and lineman, they can switch from running tpo pass blocking on a dime, and if they can't then they don't deserve to be here. BTW- the Raiders only ran it 4 more times then we did yesterday. |
Your team stinks
