Defense good for a 1/2

Too bad we had to play 2 halves today.

Going to be a LONG season...

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

D sucks just like last year... No pass rush and suck at stopping the run... **** the D

arsaint 09-11-2016 03:44 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

I was guilty of eating the cheese. I thought we had something. Thought we had improved.

Nope - del rio knew how bad our D was and rubbed our noses in it....

Sick of Dennis Allen already.

Man..... Looked good 1st half.... Breaux getting injured didn't help...

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

Front 7 blows - can't give Ryan Leaf or Heath Schuler that much time to pass

ChrisXVI 09-11-2016 03:46 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

The total lack of a pass rush was astonishing. Cameron Jordan was going against the backup RT and then eventually the LT who had to move to his side and he got 0 pressure. The Raiders O-Line was in disarray and it didn't even matter.

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

Looked good through 3 quarters honestly. After Breaux went out it was straight downhill. Sure hope he's ok. Anyone have an update on him?

K Major 09-11-2016 03:49 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

I didn't hear Fairley or Davison's name called at all today. Gashed up the middle virtually all of the 2nd half. That schedule has a lot of better O lines far better than Oakland coming up.

Better get it together.

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

Same D different year. Another bottom of the league finish for this D. Looks like nothing has changed. Can't stop the run, receivers open all game, ZERO pressure against backups of backups. Sad.

That was my biggest fear, and it happens in the 1st freaking game? I think we're cursed

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

need a big butted, sand in the pants run stuffer up front that eats up blockers for lunch.

When we got stuck with 4 rookies in the secondary, 2 of which went undrafted I could see Carr licking his lips. That was the turning point of the game.

Delvin Breaux must stay healthy

Cortland Finnegan signed before the Falcons?

Ken Crawley got abused badly, he has a good bit to learn

Danno 09-11-2016 04:01 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

Stupid timeout by Brees, again didn't help

blackangold 09-11-2016 04:13 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

1 guy getting hurt shouldn't kill the D. DB40 going out didn't hurt the pass rush, they sucked all game.

K Major 09-11-2016 04:16 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

If we don't get a more consistent pass rush, it could get ugly.
Those young corners are going to get abused every week.

You shouldn't lose when you put up 30+ points at this level.

Brees deserves better.

burningmetal 09-11-2016 04:16 PM

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

I thought all in all the defense at least held together for a half, but I wasn't thrilled with the run defense. They looked good at times and bad at others. But then came the second half, and they got completely gashed. Breaux leaving didn't help, but the biggest problem for the secondary was there was almost ZERO pass rush... Again.

A healthy Ellerbe has shown to make a sizable difference, and of course he wasn't there today. And that's just the problem with him. You never know when he's going to play.

Offensively, there were a lot of explosive and exciting plays. But you can't bog down in the red zone so much. Overall though, they did what they should have done against a middling team like the Raiders.

Coby Fleener was, after one game, exactly who I thought he was. He better start showing up. We had a third down where Drew threw a high ball where only Fleener could get it, and the defender had his back turned so it should have been an easy catch. Dropped. That's his M.O.

Brees must be wondering why he didn't let his agents talk to the Broncos.

The positives for me ...

Cooks and Kenny V played like the 1st rounders they are.
Snead IV was equally impressive (minus the fumble).
Michael Thomas can catch anything within a 3 foot radius.
Armstead made Khalil Mack non existent today.

Fleener ... meh. Step up your game son.

+ I will say that the O-line as a whole looked good today. A little to many hits + on Brees but an overall good job.
+ Ingram ran really well on a limited number of carries.
+ We got a great group of receivers.
+ PJ Williams looked promising.

- Murphy didn't get anything to happen on the returns
- Non-existent passrush.
- That weird run with Brees.
- No turnovers.

Strief also matched up against Kalil Mack and kept him quiet

Andrus Peat played well which surprised me.

Michael Thomas impressed me with his hands and his hustle.

Peat is no surprise to me, I have seen it during the pre-season, said it earlier, he just needs time.

Thomas looks like the real deal. You can tell the kid wants it.

This defense will have it's growing pains. We will get better with time I believe. Still, it wouldn't have been this close without the penalties on the Raiders.

I though we had a couple chances for sacks, to me, the secondary blew it on the long run. There were at least 3 there that just watched him blow right by. That being said, we need to blitz until we get home. Send 9 if you gotta send 9, didn't see many all-outs

Crusader I saw that too. I hope that was just a busted play.
No way I want to see Brees on a QB option under any circumstances.

De'vante Harris and Ken Crawley just stood there watching as he ran past them.

Yeah the run defense was just as bad as last 2 years. They ran on us at will pretty much and that opens up to play action, a confused defense, and trying to call lucky plays. Instead of dictating what the offense can do.

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

Well when Breaux went down there were exactly 0 corners on the team that have played in an NFL game.

Good news is that the offensive line was not all that horrible.
Our defense won't be much better this year because of youth. Next year is when we should really see improvement.

Well it IS raining where I am. You know what they say... When it rains, the defense is poor. That's what they should say, anyway. Today at least.

I see no difference from last years team. Same exact problems, not a single area looks to be improved. Highly disappointed with the D. Feel bad for Brees, we have to score 40 every game to have a shot at winning, we are just wasting his last few years.

There is a bus somewhere to toss Fleener under. He sucks.

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

Gut the whole building, bulldoze it, start from scratch top to bottom. 0-16 this season, silver lining is a knife to our throat, and we're the laughingstock of the division. Hope they remove the saints from the NFL, cause they're making the league less competitive and it's just a waste of a fan's time. We have the worst roster of rejected throw-outs in the entire NFL. What was the gameplan, get yourself fired? Plus nobody can even stand looking at their stupid uniforms anyway. Gold just looks puss-yellow in the proper lighting. Ridiculous to even assume we'd be competitive in the least. Delusional at best, completely and blissfully ignorant at worst. Just an insignificant gnat on the windshield of our adversaries.

and we didn't get one damn sack. Carr had way too long to throw all day, everyday, wanna go night night, I said do you wanna go night night

Breaux getting hurt is what made the D suck. We have zero for depth behind him.

They need to get rid of Laurinaitis he is slow and got pushed around like a rag doll. I was not impressed, move Anthony back to mlb.
