That being said, I don't think being honored by the NFL means as much as it used to anymore either.

Its idol worship. I love the game. I could not care less who's name is on the back of the jersey.

If I had an all expense paid trip to Canton I probably wouldn't even go.

The shame is that we don't even have any idea what this means anymore.
At least in the past we had illusions about our heroes.
They may not have been perfect but we could honor their athletic accomplishments.
There is more transparency in cases like Rice, OJ, Sharper and the like.
That is a good thing.
But, the micro-aggression mindset and the social justice propping up of things like the Kaepernick deal don't equate and makes me sad.
I guess when a deserter, Bradley Manning, gets a Rose Garden homecoming?
We shouldn't be surprised that our sports leagues don't resemble traditional United States Of America values or give us much to honor these days.
Thank for the post Will.

If it is on field then yes. He should be considered. I know it sounds awful but if that is the rule then that is the rule.

The NFL doesn't have to go into detail and advertise all the horrible things he's done off the field.

If kids see his bust in the hall, and Google him, then they can read about what he did off the field. But history is history, you don't erase it just because you don't agree with it. Otherwise, you're taking away a good learning opportunity from younger generations.

His situation is a little different than players that are drug addicts, poor locker room guys, dirty players, and players who get arrested for DWI and fighting. He drugged and raped several woman and admitted to it. To me one of the most heinous crimes besides that of murder or child molestation.
Their needs to be a line. And yes the rules say on the field and not related to character. Still some moron decided to nominate him. I would think human compassion would prevail and someone would have enough class not to even mention him.

Can't imagine him getting any votes.
