What's the word on PJ Williams

Haven't heard a word. Is he ok?

Not official, but he won't be playing this week and is likely doubtful for next week.

yeah, don't think he'll play, but he's alive and can move. I was listening on the radio and man I was scared for him. Relieved he's gonna be okay.

From Rotoworld...

Saints placed CB P.J. Williams (concussion) on injured reserve.
Williams avoided a spinal injury, but the Saints aren't taking any chances with him. Already one of the worst defenses in the league, his loss leaves New Orleans extremely thin in the secondary. UDFA Ken Crawley will replace Williams in base sets.

Saints re-signed OT Tony Hills.
He's taking the spot of P.J. Williams, who was placed on I.R. Hills will serve in a swing role behind Terron Armstead and Zach Strife.

....are you f***ing kidding me!? Another CB on IR.... This is beyond ridiculous. If this keeps up we won't be able to field a defense at all. God must hate the Saints.

Our 2017 draft needs to be entirely cornerbacks, we are going to need 20+ to get through a season...

Hard to believe our CB depth was supposed to be Breaux-Lewis-Williams-Swann. Now we'll be starting Moore and Crawley until Breaux comes back and by then it might be too late to matter.

We started with a loaded secondary and 2 weeks in 7 players are on IR..

Why too late? I'm sure Breaux can get his job back. We should be 5-2 by then.

I respect your optimism, but I dont believe we win 5 straight games unfortunately.

So? Do you think the Saints players are crying about it? No. They are simply getting ready for the next game. There is not that much difference between the #3 CB and the #7 CB on an NFL roster.

In all fairness, I wouldn't cry about it if I got paid multi millions to blow 4th quarter leads lol

Well that sucks but I am atleast glad that the Saints are an organization that takes neck and head injuries very serious.

I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them did cry after losing a 4th quarter lead.

Not that I'm saying you're wrong, but you had us 2-0, so what I am saying is I don't think you're right

Re: What's the word on PJ Williams

Next man up is a nice saying, and you hope that they truly believe it. But at a certain point, when that next man is just a kid, or some old vet who is just hanging around hoping for a phone call, it's not exactly improving our chances. I'm not screaming doomsday and I hope with all my heart that they shut everyone down every week, I don't expect it though. DA is going to have to come up with some creative ways to mask the inexperience of our corners. Sure would be nice if the pass rush would step up.

I think Moore played pretty good last week. But man...he's pretty much our #1 corner right now. Lol. Wow. Well I guess we'll all see if our young guys get better week to week. They certainly did last week.

2016 projected top 5 CB's (we typically keep about 5 or 6)...
Keenan Lewis - Gone
Delvin Breaux - Gone
PJ Williams - Gone
Kyle Williams - Gone
Damian Swann - Gone

Wow, just F****** wow!

Feet to the fire time for Crawler and Harris.
At least by seasons end we will know if they can sink or swim in future years. If they continue to progress taking them two,Sterling and Swann into next season with Breaux and Williams it could turn a position of weakness into a strength.

If the front 7 can generate pressure they should be ok,if they dont it could be a long few months

I see a lot more blitz packages in our future. My crystal ball was delivered last week and the crack was repaired with super glue so the pictures are only 80% sure

we will be playing a lot more 3 and 4 safety sets. Time for the OSU rookie to show what hes got.

Next man up doesn't work when you have 4 guys out, and all that's left is a bunch of rookies and castoff's. Yeah, it's a pretty big deal.

Re: What's the word on PJ Williams

I'm very glad for P.J., that he didn't suffer a spinal injury. I don't mean to lose any perspective on that. But all that aside, if it's only a concussion, why on earth is he going on IR? They let Swann get knocked out 3 or 4 times before calling it a year for him last season.

Seems like at least waiting a couple of weeks to see how he progresses would be worth it, rather than just putting him on the shelf immediately.

Yea that's cool when the next man up is capable of fulfilling the duties of his predecessor....& that's not our case so I think that might be the big deal

Yea it is, you NEVER see the 7th CB on the field maybe outside of an injury or special teams

Re: What's the word on PJ Williams

I think they made the right choice to place the young man on IR. Boxers don't fight within a couple years after getting knocked out and with the serious problems with CTE and the continuous concussions Swann had after his misfortunes this seem like a no brainier to place him on IR. I pray that P.J. have a smooth and full recovery

Burn,
From my reading, there was speculation that PJ suffered a GRADE 3 concussion. Apparently these are super severe (loss of consciousness, amnesia, possible bleeding, nerve trauma). He was on the turf motionless for a least a minute if not longer. If he does in fact have a Grade 3 concussion & would get another one a week or two later it could be life threatening & permanent brain damage.

The young man is only 22, 23 and suffered a very serious injury that could be life altering. Right after it happened, I immediately began to pray for him because it looked bad, I mean Darryl Stingley (paralysis) bad. I just don't think the Saints medical staff & trainers are taking a chance with it.

Side note: IMO I don't think the Saints staff handled Swann's triple concussion situation well last year. Hopefully he has no long term effects.

Re: What's the word on PJ Williams

That sucks. But prayers have been answered as far as spinal damage, glad he's not paralyzed.

As for the corner situation, yeah it's bad, but after Monday, we're not far from the bye week. We'll get Rankins and Breaux back eventually...and let's not forget, we held the almighty, ALMIGHTY Giants offense to no TD's, without Breaux, and without PJ Williams. But, I guess we'll have to pitch a few shutouts in a row to convince anybody that we're worth a darn. I'm more concerned with not converting 3rd downs, and the FG unit to be honest.

I said that to say this, if we can manage until Breaux returns, I think we'll have one hell of a secondary.
