Wade Phillips and Romeo Crennell were both available when we went after Rob Ryan.

I wasn't complaining when Rob provided results but I think the stories about Payton "taking over" and changing what he wanted from the D are legit, he is still trying to copy Seattles D and won't admit that the experiment has failed.

Our D in 2013 kept us in the playoff game, it was the offense that cowered in the face of Seattle but Payton will never admit he was wrong.

Exactly...why spend two draft picks on a guy to sit him on the bench?!? This type of drafting is an immediate fail in and of itself, and exactly the self-defeating modus operandi of Payton's Saints before they get to the field!!! :bang:

Good point
Look at the players we have slent multiple picks on tbe past 5 or so years. Not one has been worth what was paid.

Off the top of my head, just on this seasons roster, I'd say Craig Robertson, Willie Snead, Max Unger, John Kuhn, Nick Farley and Luke McCown have all worked out pretty well.

Jarhi Evans and Sterling Moore aren't world beaters but considering the situations in which they were acquired, they've been decent stop gaps.

Moore is a keeper. Has done a nice job... better than that clown #39 from last year.

LB Anthony was awful. totally without instincts. Runs himself out of plays or into the trash. Cannot shed blocks. Did not cover TE or RBs. Clearly a wasted 1st round pick. Doubt we could trade him at this point.

Agreed. And I've got a lot of respect for Crawley. In the past two weeks he's been on an island against Odell Beckham Jr and Julio Jones. He hasn't been great but he keeps on trying. That's a heck of a lot to ask from an undrafted free agent.

I, too, have seen about enough of Byrd. I've been as patient as one could be, as a fan, with him. He went from can't stay healthy, to can't make big plays even when healthy... And now, he is just a complete liability. He's never in position to make a play on the ball, and when he needs to make an open field tackle, he either whiffs or just falls down.

I'm done talking about "what if" with him. I don't need any more convincing that he is a bust. That's unfortunate, and very costly.

Laurenitis and Harper, two guys out there for "leadership" just look awful at times. Harper is playing because of injuries, but I know he was brought in as a veteran presence. That kind of thing has always irked me, for the very reason of what we saw last night. Leadership is great, but if you are a liability on the field you shouldn't be on the roster. That's why they created the idea of having assistant coaches. You can lead without getting in the way.

I see some young guys in the secondary getting burned, who at least show some competitiveness out there. That's all I ask. But we have vets who just flat out aren't getting it done.
