OFFICIAL: Cut Immediatley List

Jairus Byrd.

Any scrub off the street would be better at this point as proven by his effort last night, and the scheme of him playing 40 yards down field hasn't been working so far. Heck it doesn't even prevent big plays!

Re: OFFICIAL: Cut Immediatley List

can't argue the Byrd cut.

I mean there has got to be someone even on the practice squad that would at least get in the way to at least try and slow the runner down or something. Falling down like he did come on...

We traded up to draft Byrd's replacement... Time for some return on investment.

Byrd looks like a weak link, and is certainly horrible as a cover-1 deep safety. We need to mix in more zone - it is the only way these young corners will get better at it.

Atlanta exposed us playing man-to-man all the time - compressed set, rollout pass, get the edge for big yards, rinse and repeat.

Still think pierre warren should be on the team, when he was on the field he produced results

Rotten please add James Laurenitis to your list.

All of this "smarts, getting guys in position" is nonsense. Dude can't shed a block to save his life. He's washed up.

Pierre Warren and Vonn Bell on the field at the same time. Pierre was much more productive than Byrd and for about 55 million less as well, another great FO move.

Opposing offenses cream in their pants at the thought of facing THE James Laurenitis.

Lets add brandon coleman on there too. I know he did ok but still dropped far too many passes and is soft. Colston he is not.

One more in a a long list of POS free agent signings. When Payton put the 2006 team together everything seemed to work. He had the Midas touch. Sean could do no wrong. At least it looked that way.

Considering the string of total busts the Saints have had with both draft picks and free agents it makes me wonder what the F is going on.

It looks like Sean's first teams were put together by someone else (Parcels ?) who may have been able to actually judge talent. Since then he has been on his own.

Jairus Byrd.
James Laurinaitis.
Coby Fleener.
Roman Harper.

I'd trade Cam Jordan for extra picks and get a true, pass rushing defensive end with our #1 overall pick we seem to be headed towards. Myles Garrett comes to mind.

So Byrd got injured his first two seasons with us, Payton waited for him to get healthy even though the backups are better.

CJ Spiller is injured and then gets healthy his second year, Payton cuts him in favour of Cadet.

There is no consistency, he can't admit his little "mimic seattles D" experiment has failed and he's just jumping from one disappointment to the next.

Cap space for 2017 about $13 million

Top 2017 cap cuts were savings out weigh dead money

Jairus Byrd 3.7 mil
Dannell Ellerbe 3.2 mil
James Laurinaitis 2.1 mil

thats another 9 million right there

22 million without killing us

Saints FO shouldn't re sign John Jenkins in 2017 (UFA).

No way this guy is quality depth. He has been a big time liability @ the nose. He was gashed up the middle vs Oakland, Giants and last night (see Devonte Freeman run up the gut) vs Falcons.

I expected more production from a 3rd rd pick.

It's not non sense. It's what he does. BUT I don't think he should be a starter based on that alone because he is barely a shell of his former self. Put Anthony back at Mike and let him learn. JL should be his backup and help in teaching the young guy what to do. But we have it ass backwards for some reason.

I can remember seeing his highlights when we drafted him and being completely underwhelmed.

He was literally getting pushed about with ease in college, looks like nothing has changed.

No..Von Bell is healthy. But he cannot start because then the staff would have to admit another failure signing.

Our entire defense is hurt. Rankins, Ellerbe, Alphabet and our entire secondary. We can't win games like this and if the front office is not going to fix it now they've already given up on the season.

I'd start with cutting coaches; Vitt, Johnson = Let Dennis Allen have some say in who his associate coaches are...

Mcmahon because damn, our special teams suck!

How about cutting Payton and getting a defensive minded coach? Say someone like Vic Fangio?

Re: OFFICIAL: Cut Immediatley List

Wade Phillips and Romeo Crennell were both available when we went after Rob Ryan.

I wasn't complaining when Rob provided results but I think the stories about Payton "taking over" and changing what he wanted from the D are legit, he is still trying to copy Seattles D and won't admit that the experiment has failed.

Our D in 2013 kept us in the playoff game, it was the offense that cowered in the face of Seattle but Payton will never admit he was wrong.

Exactly...why spend two draft picks on a guy to sit him on the bench?!? This type of drafting is an immediate fail in and of itself, and exactly the self-defeating modus operandi of Payton's Saints before they get to the field!!! :bang:

Good point
Look at the players we have slent multiple picks on tbe past 5 or so years. Not one has been worth what was paid.

Off the top of my head, just on this seasons roster, I'd say Craig Robertson, Willie Snead, Max Unger, John Kuhn, Nick Farley and Luke McCown have all worked out pretty well.

Jarhi Evans and Sterling Moore aren't world beaters but considering the situations in which they were acquired, they've been decent stop gaps.

Moore is a keeper. Has done a nice job... better than that clown #39 from last year.

LB Anthony was awful. totally without instincts. Runs himself out of plays or into the trash. Cannot shed blocks. Did not cover TE or RBs. Clearly a wasted 1st round pick. Doubt we could trade him at this point.

Agreed. And I've got a lot of respect for Crawley. In the past two weeks he's been on an island against Odell Beckham Jr and Julio Jones. He hasn't been great but he keeps on trying. That's a heck of a lot to ask from an undrafted free agent.

Re: OFFICIAL: Cut Immediatley List

I, too, have seen about enough of Byrd. I've been as patient as one could be, as a fan, with him. He went from can't stay healthy, to can't make big plays even when healthy... And now, he is just a complete liability. He's never in position to make a play on the ball, and when he needs to make an open field tackle, he either whiffs or just falls down.

I'm done talking about "what if" with him. I don't need any more convincing that he is a bust. That's unfortunate, and very costly.

burningmetal 09-27-2016 09:50 PM

Re: OFFICIAL: Cut Immediatley List

Laurenitis and Harper, two guys out there for "leadership" just look awful at times. Harper is playing because of injuries, but I know he was brought in as a veteran presence. That kind of thing has always irked me, for the very reason of what we saw last night. Leadership is great, but if you are a liability on the field you shouldn't be on the roster. That's why they created the idea of having assistant coaches. You can lead without getting in the way.

I see some young guys in the secondary getting burned, who at least show some competitiveness out there. That's all I ask. But we have vets who just flat out aren't getting it done.
