i'm going to catch crap on this but i'll say it anyway. when u have 8-10 players and i'm not just saying starters .just role players also out, u don't have much at all of chance on even competing with the lowest of lows in NFL. now listen to this ending, WHEN U DON'T HAVE SOLID BACK UPS. and yes i'm proud the way these young guys have heart not to quit. it reminds me of seans first year in 06, we had winning season with young on the ball players that played with fire and no quit in them. may be the start of something good to come. NOT LIKE THEM SUPERBOWL PANTYS THAT JUST QUIT AGAINST THE CLOWNS YESTERDAY.:)

I think all those who are using the injuries to excuse Sean are perhaps missing the point. The VAST majority of injuries have been on defense. Sean is an offensive guy. And it seems that if Brees isn't on top of his game we are losing. The play calling became rather predictable over time. I don't see where Sean is some great game planner, anymore. We lost one game this year because of bad offense, and yesterday was almost a second one, if not for the two turnovers deep in Charger territory.

I'm not calling for his head right now. I'm going to let the season play out before I give a definitive opinion on his future. But I get the growing doubt towards Payton, and I don't disagree with it.

There was a time when I used to expect loses, and any win was awesome. That was a long time ago. People are free to celebrate as much as they want over this. That's fine. I'm not going to get in anyone's ear and yell at them for that. But I have a tendency to kind of look at each game for what it is. If it wasn't impressive I'll say so. I'm still glad we won, and I clapped my hands and cheered while watching it. But that doesn't change what I saw for the majority of the game, and I don't get the hate towards giving an honest assessment of the game.

I'm not a paid analyst. It's just a natural thing for some of us to analyze. More time is spent arguing about opinion's than about football, these days.

Heard an interesting sound byte from Mike and Mike last week ...

The Saints were 3rd in the NFL on spending for offensive players and 31st for the defense.

Even before injuries this defense was bad...very bad. I actually believe Mickey Loomis is a bigger problem than Payton. He (Loomis) is either a bad personnel guy or he is not a personnel guy at all. Either way this isn't acceptable for a GM.

No matter how any of us feel about Loomis, no one can deny it's insane to have one man serving as GM for two Pro sport teams. It's too much for one man.

I definitely put a lot of the blame on Loomis, as well. No doubt about that. And I agree that he shouldn't be a GM for two different teams, also.

It's ridiculous. The guy is drinking too much of his own kool-aid. And Benson was nuts to offer him that opportunity.

Now we didn't. We had a balanced attack that took like 2 minutes off the clock. We ran the ball as much as we could to burn the clock. You can only take so much time before you score and we milked pretty much every second we could off the clock. You can do it slowly but eventually you have to score. Great clock management in my opinion. Like I said 9 times out of ten Payton would have put that ball in the air and try to score in like 30 seconds.

It wasn't that bad. Our line is at least a little bit better and our starting CBs were more than capable. Our problem was depth. We are seeing the result of that. With Breaux and Lewis back there we would be tough to score on. With Ellerbie and Rankins our front would be better.
Before our injuries their would have been plenty of defenses worse than us.

Of all the possible games in the universe, to put Sean Payton's neck in the guillotine and say "win today, or die!" while wanting him to fail, this was simply NOT the right game to do it for! If you were into counting the Saints' chickens before they hatched, and a lot of us were, or if you wanted to turn off the TV and say "Same ole Saints," well then yesterday was simply NOT the right day to do it.

This was the "Drew is awesome" game. Look, it was a crazy, sloppy, up-and-down game, and the football gods basically smiled down on us and GAVE it to Drew at the very end. And that was mainly because he asked them nicely for it. End of story.

Did I think we were gonna win? Of course not. Those four plays on defense at the very end, we all know that if any ONE of those had gone differently, it would have been a different game and we would be singing a very different tune today. But they didn't, they actually happened.... incredible things DO happen sometimes....even to crummy football teams....

And in this case, that's probably because in the big cosmic scheme of things, yesterday had very little do with firing Payton, it was Drew's day in the sunshine, his day of personal redemption, plain and simple. The grouchy referendum on Payton and Loomis and stewing over the whole slew of coaches can wait until another time, another day. This wasn't the right game for that. When the universe is smiling down and sending you a message, you should just accept it.

On Saturday, Drew went to the exact spot on the field where he was injured in 2005 and prayed, and no doubt reflected on the journey that life has taken him on so far. THAT is the story line of yesterday, even in the final crazy minutes, while Drew was wandering around the sideline grinning like a schoolboy, after those crazy fumbles and defensive plays that had absolutely nothing to do with him, but gave him exactly what he had wanted and wished for.

We won a game, and the Chargers kinda chocked. It's that simple.

Drew Brees wasn't the only person on that field who ever faced adversity. I believe that God blesses people, and Drew has certainly been blessed. But you're suggesting that God intervened on the outcome of the game. Maybe back up the hyperbole just a tad.

Wasn't that bad? After week #1 of the season the Saints ranked :


#31st in total defense.
#28th in passing defense.
#25th in rushing defense.

This defense has been bad for a while. Multiple seasons of anemic, last place rankings. At some point you can't keep pointing fingers at injuries.
