Fire Sean Payton

Same result every week.

When one side of the ball shows up, the other fails.

Embarrassing how bad we look, the browns will win before us.

Okay, I admit I was harsh, who could have seen 2 straight fumbles happening though.

Sean Payton had nothing to do with that, the D just worked.

Payton still needs to go.

Celebrating 1-3 isn't where this team should be. Glad we got a win, but there is too much wrong with this organization.

Precisely, the only reason for that win was the young guys on D didn't quit at the end. Nothing to do with Sean Payton.

Meh... win or lose its business as usual around here. Negativity everywhere. We have an incredibly young team that has been devastated, decimated, torn apart, ripped to shreds and left lying in a gutter bleeding by injuries. And what about those wonderful Patriots everyone likes to point to as an example? Oh they only got shutout by the Bills today.. nothing seems to make you guys happy.

Let the flaming commence.

No flaming neccessary, I'm not Guido therefore I won't bash your opinion. It's your opinion and I respect it like my own, even if they do differ.

And Payton was smart to not score quickly and give the Chargers any extra time to work with!

Please tell me how you had confidence that the defense was going to keep the Chargers from getting into FG range, if not score a TD?

Our offense was a lot more balanced in this game than most other games. Continuing to stick to the run and trusting in it to not only take the lead but to burn clock. 9 times out of ten they would have all been passing plays that burned no more than 20 seconds off the clock.
The fact he did it when we were behind is totally uncharacteristic of Payton.
I say this is one of the better games he has coached in a long time.

Hey were in a three way tie for second place in the division.
We have a Bye and hopefully get some guys back.
The best thing today is the Saints didn't quit, thanks
to a few unimaginable breaks.
The good Lord still likes Drew.

I think we have crossed lines.
In my opinion, we scored far too fast and left the chargers ages to score. To clarify, I still had no belief the D was going to stop them and thought the Chargers would win.

Luckily for us, they shot themselves in the foot.

Well this thread certainly feels premature now, doesn't it?

But I'd agree it's time at least ask the question if for no other reason than...

it'd probably be healthy for both Payton and the team to turn the heat up...

Re: Fire Sean Payton

I'm relieved to get any kind of win after all the ways this team has found to lose. Not a very impressive performance by the offense. They don't have enough injuries on that side to make any excuses, and they really didn't look good most of the day. Thank goodness for the defense finally creating turnovers.

So yeah, a relieving win. There are definitely a lot of things that need to be cleaned up.

Tackling had better be one of those areas!

For sure. Tackling, penalties, Brees' continual struggles on the road. He was very inaccurate today, even on some completions. I don't know what happens to him on the road. And of course the offensive line is still very up and down.

A win is a win, though. Hopefully this will help the team refocus. I'm not expecting much, but I know the offense can be better.

Re: Fire Sean Payton

Some things that never change and always has me getting loud at the TV. Poor clock management and use of time outs. When he gets behind by two or more scores, THEN he wants to run the ball. And amazingly, the Saints have the slowest hurry up offense in the NFL.

And today after driving straight down the field on the first drive with Ingram, the next two drives were a mixture of Hightower and Lasco. ????? He gets way too cute sometimes and out thinks himself.

We could very easily be 3-1. We're not. We're 1-3. That's what we are. I get it. Out defense is bad. I get it. Injuries are no excuse. I get it.

We fought today. We've fought for 4 games. Serious adversity. I'm not ready to get rid of Sean. Not even close.

Remember that all this is for fun. If you're not having fun, youre too serious.

Dizzle, you're just being a fan. Its not like you've switched over the a team currently winning. I expect you will remain a Saints fan for the long haul, and you'll cheer when we win, and mourn & wring hands when we lose.

Tonight, we celebrate. See Yall at the Saints / Panthers in 2 weeks, and I'll be raising hell in the Terrace. WHODAT, Brothers.

Re: Fire Sean Payton

The defense did come up big but they played well the whole second half except for one TD drive. The offense however did not until Brees got his "short fields" something I was afraid of here. We are not going to always get turnovers over stops so the offense needs to start playing better on the road(and avoiding stupid mistakes like the fumbled punt return against Atlanta at home). Offense lost the first two games of the season(yes I said that you don't sit on a lead against a rising QB who just threw four TDs in a tough atmosphere against a 3-0 team) and played a role in losing it week 3 though not ultimately the reason.

Some say the offense has to play too perfect. The offense used to not make all these mistakes early in games. The offense has screwed up the last two games before the other team fielded any points. The saints honestly could have had a comfortable win here.

Let's hope the defense keeps it up but let's not hope the offense is fine doing what they are doing so far here.

Re: Fire Sean Payton

Firing Sean seems a bit over kill.
I see way too much success on the offensive side of the ball.
I think he's been looking for his mirror image on the defensive side of the ball;
Just hasn't been able to turn that thing over to someone else to handle it.
Budgetary constraints haven't helped either. Several hands we had to just fold.
Post Brees, let's see what he can do.
Then we run him out of town.

We have a roster full of injuries and inexperienced players. It is almost as if people think we should be 4-0 and Superbowl contenders.

Absolutely, I'm black and gold til I die, I'll watch every game win or lose, times looked bleak 14 points down which ultimately led to this thread. However, SP still has to be on the hot seat, its a huge win but its only 1.

That's cool, and I said on a other thread we haven't given up we are just not good. I hope you're right. Saying we could easily be 3-1 when we are 1-3 is really meaningless

I dunno, I think injuries are a pretty good excuse. To say otherwise is like saying you should be able to bring a high school team in and win. Our team has been decimated with injuries throughout the lineup... and we've managed to stay competitive. I think Payton is doing a pretty good job in all honesty.

Whoa whoa Diz. If the young guys on defense HAD quit and we lost, you'd be saying that is Sean Payton's fault. Cmon man. You've made up your mind. I respect that. But you've got to give credit where it's due. The Saints finished this game. Found a way to win. Prior to the game the coach made some personnel changes too.

I'm glad we won! The team needed that! And so did I! Who Dat!

I missed the game, and I don't know what we did to stop Rivers at the end, but that is the part that impresses me. Given the way our defense plays and the NFL goes, you figure we have about a 25% of keeping the Chargers out of Field Goal range in the two-minute drill. Somehow we did it, defense must have showed up big time.

1st down - Nick Fairley got his second sack of the game

2nd down - Rivers making changes at the line, center snaps it past him, rivers recovers.

3rd down - Could have been a backbreaker for us, very near 24 yard completion on 3rd and 22. Sterling Moore gets a finger tip on it, knocks off Inmans concentration and he misjudges the catch. Tip drill dropped by 2 saints defenders.

4th down - Rivers throws deep right side and B.W Webb is standing at the first down marker, jumps and snags it.

I saw a few bad passes that Brees normally makes with his eyes closed (2 badly thrown balls to Thomas). He may have been hurt in the 4th quarter because he didn't look right.

The bye came at the perfect time. Hopefully it's minor. These men need time to heal up.
