Trading 1st Round Pick
It is often mentioned moving up the board to get DJ or down for more picks. For moving down I scanned other teams picks and what it would take. It is very difficult to get even value picks for picks.
For instance, to trade the #16 first round selection to Houston they would have to trade all of their other picks including two 3rds and two 7ths to come close to equal value (still 13pts short). So, not likely. It is much easier with teams that have multiple picks in a round. N.O. first #16 and third #82 is almost exact value of the Chargers first #28, second #42, and fifth #135 N.O. first #16 and fourth #112 is near the Eagles first #31 plus second #35 Two movedowns 5 or 6 slots work relatively easy too- N.O. first #16 and third #82 is close to both Jaguars and Colts first and second rounders (21+52 or 22+53). It sounds easy, move down for more picks but value for value it is more difficult to make it work than you might imagine. i am sure whichever team initiates such deal would take any negative differential if it accomplishes a goal whether it is in moving up or down. For straight value to move up to the Tennessee #6 spot it would equate to N.O. first #16, second #40, fourth #112, and fifth #135. When you actually start balancing these values it amazes me that they get as many deals done as they do. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/6330687 [Edited on 10/3/2005 by LKelley67] |

Trading 1st Round Pick
I want more picks..but the players I want are all late first thru early thirds...I\'m scared of trading up..I think that burnett and ruud + other plyers equal just getting johnson who could be a bust.

Trading 1st Round Pick
i\'m glad we arent a top 5 pick. there isnt a consensus on who are the certified studs worth that risk and investment. if i had to pick on who i thought was the surest fire stud in this class my top 5 might go something like this-
-braylon edwards, could be #1 overall still -derrick johnson, looking like a crennel guy more n more -ronnie brown, the best pro looking of the top 3 to me -antrell rolle, high impact even if he ends up at safety -milke williams, think michael clayton a level or two higher |

I think you can\'t miss with brown and cadillac-these guys are studs.
After that becomes iffy--rolle is the best corenrback in the draft, johnson with the right teacher (crennel) will be good, I think smith is the best quarterback. If i were to draft: 1. brown-yes the niners need a QB but wait till leiner next year..brown will atleast give them an offense and rattay ain\'t that bad. 2. dolphins: cadilac williams-they don\'t have a RB and edge isn\' t the answer 3. browns: johnson 4. bears: edwards/mike williams 5. Bucs: smith 6 Titants: mike williams/edwards-esp. with the loss of mason either way with brown and cadillac I don\'t think you can miss-these guys barring injury will be very solid pro bowlers for years to come. I think that edwards and mike williams are definitly up there as well..but should go to a team with a qb and a running game.

trading down is so sought after you might see the team moving down actually do more giving in value compensation. someone wanting to move up for a qb, rb, or dj might get to do so at much less premium than in most years.

It depends on team needs... I don\'t think a team moving down gets less value? You get more pics and if you can get a second or third or even a 4th, in this draft you are getting a lot. You are getting more players who can come in and compete for playing time right away. This year you get to snag more players that or NFL caliber players. The dividends will pay off... Every year you have a your premium players in top 5 - top 10 range. Its the same this year however the one HUGE difference is that there are many players worth drafting, and can contribute early on. Trading down maybe the hardest thing to do actually with that in mind.
I\'ll go ahead and say it now and you can quote me later on this... the teams with the most picks in the first 3-4 rounds in this draft will be vastly improved team as early as this year or within the next 2-3 years. |

Trading 1st Round Pick
this draft has some guys I like..but none of them are where we\'d pick without reaching..but I don\'t want to trade down because there a are a couple of teams below us that want the same players. for instance: i think that britt will be as good as any ot in the draft..but he has to be drafted in the right round to be a steal... |
