Trading 1st Round Pick
It is often mentioned moving up the board to get DJ or down for more picks. For moving down I scanned other teams picks and what it would take. It is very difficult to get even value picks for picks.
For instance, to trade the #16 first round selection to Houston they would have to trade all of their other picks including two 3rds and two 7ths to come close to equal value (still 13pts short). So, not likely. It is much easier with teams that have multiple picks in a round. N.O. first #16 and third #82 is almost exact value of the Chargers first #28, second #42, and fifth #135 N.O. first #16 and fourth #112 is near the Eagles first #31 plus second #35 Two movedowns 5 or 6 slots work relatively easy too- N.O. first #16 and third #82 is close to both Jaguars and Colts first and second rounders (21+52 or 22+53). It sounds easy, move down for more picks but value for value it is more difficult to make it work than you might imagine. i am sure whichever team initiates such deal would take any negative differential if it accomplishes a goal whether it is in moving up or down. For straight value to move up to the Tennessee #6 spot it would equate to N.O. first #16, second #40, fourth #112, and fifth #135. When you actually start balancing these values it amazes me that they get as many deals done as they do. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/6330687 [Edited on 10/3/2005 by LKelley67] |
