Re: Saints punter Thomas Morstead is on pace to break a record that has stood for 76 years
Good for Morstead that he's having a great season so far. But this article is terribly presented by the writer.
His grammar is sketchy, at best, for one thing. But the title is misleading. It says he's on pace to break a record, and then goes on to casually mention somewhere in the middle of the write-up that Pat Macafee is ahead of Morstead's average... Which anyone who can add would be able to tell you that it puts Macafee on pace to break it, and Morstead to pass it. Simply passing what was once a record, that has already been broken, would obviously not be the same as breaking it. That is, if these two stay on this pace, which it's unlikely that they both will. So that was botched. Then he goes on to say that we should look for Morstead to be in the hall of fame one day "for sure". There has been exactly one punter (not counting players who played multiple positions in the old days) in the hall of fame. That was Ray Guy, of course, and look how long that took. I don't think the odds are real good for "the leg". Hopefully he can keep doing what he's doing. Then maybe he'll get in 40 or 50 years from now. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I think he is a dynamic chess piece for Sean Payton. He pins teams deep in their territory consistently and can drop a punt anywhere he wants to. He can kick off as well if necessary. I love the Leg.

I think we have said it in the chat room every year for the past 3-4 years now that the best player on our team is our punter.
