Re: Saints to play in London 2017
No offense to our UK Saints fans, or European fans in general, as I know this gives you guys an opportunity to see the team... But this whole London experiment has gone on too long. That is a LONG way to go to play one game in the middle of the season. And the only way the league has tried to justify it is by telling us they want to expand internationally.
But that would be a disastrous idea for whoever got sent that way to be the London whoever's. Imagine the tremendous disadvantage of traveling back and forth across the ocean ALL SEASON, and dealing with short weeks, as well as constant jet lag. Not to mention, you can forget about their fans traveling to road games. Yeah, you'd have a fortunate few who could afford it and might make that trip on a somewhat regular basis, but for the common person, you have to plan WAY ahead and make it a vacation type of event just to go to one game. Horrendous idea. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Re: Saints to play in London 2017
Im going to go, thats for sure!
I know it must infuriate a lot of fans in the USA that their teams are going to England to play but its only the second time the Saints have been here I think, so I'm not going to miss that game and yes its a LOT cheaper than going to watch a game in New Orleans. Although I have seen 7 Saints games at the Dome over the years. The first time was when the "Dome Patrol" were still causing havoc to opposing QB's etc! GEAUX SAINTS!!!! |

I don't have a problem with it until they take one of our home games. It really sucks for the home team because we where unbeatable at home not so long ago.

Re: Saints to play in London 2017
The game that they played in London last time was classed as a Saints "home" game against the Chargers and we won!
It looked strange seeing the Saints at Wembley but it was a great day out and we had a wonderful time. |

I have to agree with you burningmetal, as you say the logistics of having a permanent team in the UK would be, IMO a nightmare for the players, coaches and staff. I don't see how it would work and you are also right about the cost of travel for the road games, that just wouldn't be an option for many fans.

Re: Saints to play in London 2017
Well, the US market is declining rapidly. So the NFL needs to open the European market to increase profits. Quality football be damned.
I'm expecting multiple games there in the next few years. |

Re: Saints to play in London 2017
I think I remember reading a stat somewhere that only a couple of the teams that have ever played in London, have ever made it to the post season that same year that they went over, and a good number of teams who play in London end up not having winning records that same season as they play London game. I'm sure it takes a lot out of the team and disrupts their rhythms. I know that New England went over there in 2009, and they lost 3 of their next 5 games after the London trip, including to us, where it looked like they were gassed and tired. The 49ers did all right in 2013, the year they went over there, but they lost 2 straight games in a row, right after the London trip. Make of that whatever you will.
