Re: Saints film review: Closer look at how New Orleans beat Seattle's defense

Crawley might have saved the game by making a tackle on Tyler Lockett in the red zone during the fourth quarter that forced Seattle to kick a field goal. He then might have saved the game again when he chased down Doug Baldwin on the final drive in the open field. But he also had some down moments. There was at least one play where he appeared to get mixed up in his zone responsibility. There was also one play on run defense where he stood out poorly on a long gain. He’s shown promise as an undrafted rookie, but he’s had better games.
He's taking a lot of heat. I don't care. He has held up well when all things are considered in my humble opinion. Very high ceiling!

Yea I agree he has held up to as good as an undrafted rookie can really play.

I get upset when he is messing up on where he should be on simple zone coverages. Like when he clearly has the flat but is way inside.

But then i have to stop and remember, he is being put into this situation when he isn't fully ready, and is playing pretty decent under those circumstances.

He was likely not in the plans to play anything but special teams and a few sub-packages.

Then our top 17 CB's all go down and he's forced to start a year maybe 2 too early.

I can't believe anyone would be ripping this guy. He was a project for 2017 playing time.

I don't get the hate either for Crawley.

It's a strange mindset we Fans have with backup players forced to step into starting action and our expectations for them.

I agree, and lack of pressure early in the season only magnified the issues. DA is trying to protect him as much as possible but cushions can only do so much for so long.

Dont forget that seattle bobbled the fg attempt at the end of the first half. That was huge.

I agree 100% we are playing reserves at most of the DB positions with several key #1's on the defensive side on the sidelines looking in. I give DA prop's for bringing these reserves along, improving every week which will cetainly pay dividens going forward. Building depth of experience with our young players that will be key going forward.

DA has put the best team he has available on the field, when he starts to get his #1's back we will see the true measure of his defense, then and and not before. All the negativity about the why's and where for's, coulda woulda shoulda's is background noise at this point, not saying there is not mistakes that have been made. But it is what it is and it is improving.

3 wins out of the last 4 with the "D" making its contribution to the win and the #1's starting filter back to the field is a good thing.
