Getting off the Sean Payton Bandwagon
 

Warning: This is a rant.

I've always been a huge fan and supporter of Payton. 1st coach to get us to the NFCCG and to win us a Superbowl. I loved his fire, his moxy and the way he motivated our players. That's all gone - he's not that same coach anymore. He doesn't even know how to manage a clock anymore at the end of a game or half. The last time our team was even above .500 was back in 2013 - THREE YEARS AGO. Something finally clicked in me today. I have lost all respect for him with the way he's handled the poor special teams play, which is directly responsible for losing us at least 2 games this year. I guess it's the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. We are ranked dead last in the league in ST. Not firing McMahon, and instead, bringing in a Santa's helper shows me that he cares more about his personal relationship w McMahon than he does about his team or the fans - or winning.

It also hit me that without Brees, Payton is nothing - just imagine what our team would be like with Payton as coach and no Brees at QB. He's nothing without Brees. We'd be dead last in the division. Belichick won 3 out of 4 games without Brady. Payton wouldnt be able to do that.

Unless he gets us to the playoffs this year, he should get fired. And take puppet Loomis with you.

Absolutely agree, Payton has lost the fire and the ability to be a successful coach.

Why we gave Payton a 5 year extension fresh off of two back to back 7-9 seasons is ludicrous, I'm not surprised Benson is being investigated with decisions like that.

While I'd agree that we need a stronger GM to keep Payton in check with regards to some of these personnel moves and his reluctance to cut a coach loose out of loyalty (McMahon)...

I'd just remind you that Brees was a broken-win San Diego cast-off who was unwanted by Nick Saban and Miami before Sean Payton turned him into the NFL's best passer these past ten (10) years...

My point, Payton's a great coach who knows how to get the best from his players and put them in the best possible position, offensively...

I think you have that backwards. Without Payton Brees would be nothing. They threw him away in San Diego. Payton turned him into a hall of fame QB.

i think we have the makings of a really good team, we are a year away. I wouldn't be surprised to see us really compete next year, like 12-13 wins, and I have been very down on this team

Brees' lit up NCAA football, taking Purdue to the Rose Bowl. I think Brees' SD record and stats had more to do with SD's coaching than anything.

Though Payton may have helped turn Brees into the record setter that he is today, Brees is currently the reason Payton is keeping his HC job. Since Payton's year off for Bountygate the fire just seems to be gone. Payton and/or Loomis have made the defense a revolving door to the bottom of the NFL. This is the main reason Brees only has one ring and isn't regarded as the undisputed best QB to ever play the game.

I love Sean Payton and hope he stays through whomever we transition to after Brees.

I think Brees made Coach Payton actually. With Drew's determination he would have made Miami a contender or wherever he went. SP was smart enough early on to convince him to come to New Orleans. But I still feel they compliment each other and I for one am glad that they are both here.
I also feel that Bounty-gate took it's toll on Coach Payton and chipped away at a bit of his integrity.

Good grief, if we hadn't suffered a freakish amount of injuries and had a special teams coach, we'd likely be sitting at 7-3 or even 8-2.

Payton isn't the problem.

You have a right to you opinion but I disagree. Brees would have been great in San Diego if not for coaching. Tony Romo also had Payton, he's not as good as Brees but Brees has had Payton longer.
