New Orleans LB woes.

I had no idea we were close to signing Ian Gold.

The Saints are desperate to improve their linebacker corps, but they've struck out so far. They were close to a deal for Ian Gold, but they lost him to Denver. They liked free agent Antonio Pierce but were never in real contention as he signed immediately with the New York Giants. They sought Dat Nguyen as compensation in a proposed trade with Dallas for franchise defensive end Darren Howard but were shot down. They received a visit from talented but troubled linebacker Anthony Simmons in free agency but are wary of his injury history and reputation as a moody player. That leaves the draft.

New Orleans LB woes.

keep your internet tuned here for the latest. i like everyone pitching in whatever news n rumors they come across. that gold info cam n went pretty fast.

more enlightening from the same link:
The Saints aren\'t enamored with Texas\' Derrick Johnson or Georgia\'s Thomas Davis, the highest rated linebackers on most teams\' boards. So look for them to address another position in the first round and address linebacker with a later pick.
this says to me no trade up for dj if another pick is attained and X off thomas. jammal brown is becoming a stronger reasonable hope at #16 daily. a trade down would nto be bad either. there should be some high rated wr\'s and de\'s at #16 that other teams might want. add a possible #18 from minny or #20 from dallas and the possibility of getting 2 of the 3 best LB\'s after dj becomes very real.

Well.....I am encouraged by the Saints efforts. But honestly I don\'t blame Gold, Pierce and whoever else they persued for not coming here. The team has not shown any real \"commitment to excellence\", to quote a Raider slogan.i

That being said....I hope Channing Crowder or Kevin Burnett is available in Round 2. It was nice to dream about DJ.

Its encouraging that the Saints are actively pursuing LBs. It means they realize the current weakness. Not sure why they are not high on DJ. I have heard a lot of things about his size but his speed, coverage and knack for the ball make him an interesting prospect.

I agree i like Rudd. Burnett cant shed blockers and Crowder may have a character issue and takes too many false steps although he is a playmaker
