The QB at #16 Rehash
Many signings have impacted the possibility of Alex Smith or Alex Smith being on the board at #16. At that point it would be a value hard to turn down. Look at these team's situations:
1. SF- you find Rodgers written in here. It isn't a no-brainer however. He and Smith both grade out lower than Manning, Rivers, and Big Ben last year. Braylon Edwards is a surer high impact addition. They have serviceable Rattay and no wideouts. They could still get a Frye, Walter, Campbell, etc. at #33. They would love to trade down but probably won't find a partner since no one is unquestionably #1 with the price attached to it. 2. MIA- The signing of Frerotte along with Feeley who a 2nd was given up for X's them off the list this year. RB fo sho unless they get Alexander or James. 3. CLEV- They really do need someone. You cannot pencil it in though knowing what kind of defensive mind Crennel is. Derrick Johnson or Rolle surer things and are the kind of players defenses are built on. 4. CHI- Commited to Grossman 5. TB- Big money to Griese with Sims in the wings 6. TN- McNair with solid and young Volek backing 7. MINN- Culpepper 8. ARZ- Possible but signing of Warner doesn't enforce that either. Lots of holes to fill. Definitely a top 3 RB over QB if they still need one draft day. 9. WASH- Ramsey declared starter. Signing Brunell last year showed me Gibbs wasn't interested in a 5 year building plan. 10. DET- Still too much invested in Harrington, Garcia ready to save the day 11. DAL- tempting but now more than ever I believe Parcells has the much sooner than later push on. Not a rookie QB lover by any means. 12. SD- Two QB's in the stable already 13. HOU- David Carr 14. CARO- Jake the Snake 15. KC- Trent Green More possible than you might think now? What about teams trading up to get one at the Titans spot? Not much I could envision. The Packers to replace Farve? They have lost too much and have cap hell already. Baltimore? They traded up for Boller and still have to give him more of a shot. Jammal brown is my favorite more likely pick at #16 but I do not think one of those guys could be turned down that low. |

I say no with the main reason that i think Smith is a system QB which is what some people say about Rodgers, but if you watch Rodgers i think you can say he is the real deal. I watched Smith and think it was more the sytem than it was the QB!

I dont think so either. I would not be surprised if Cle. grabs him at #3, which would be a mistake!!!

Hasbeen give the Saints fans a legitiment reason to raise the Super Dome roof , when Brooks goes through his on again off again antics ???? Your talking about the potential of bringing in a quarterback that could have the potential to challenge Brooks for the starting position .... Thats Hieracy under the Hasbeen regime . jarrod breaux prays fro smith this week-
Super Saints Weekly 144 Pray for a Falling Smith With the NFL draft approaching, teams and fans alike will begin to turn their attention from free agency to the draft. Each year the NFL draft gives fans of every team a bit of hope and a glimpse into a possible bright lining to their team’s future, no matter what their record the past year. This year’s draft offers something different from those in years past, due to the lack of a true clear cut player who is an obvious number one overall selection. This not only makes for a more interesting and possibly trade filled draft, but it also presents various opportunities for the teams involved. Perhaps one scenario that has begun to be batted around early and has many Saints fans taking notice, involves Utah quarterback Alex Smith. Smith is considered by many to be the second highest rated quarterback in this year’s draft. However, with the strong running back class that has entered the draft along with many players at various positions being rated fairly equally, Smith is being projected by many to fall out of the top ten and possibly to the middle of this year’s draft. Sources report that the Saints consider Smith one of the top offensive prospects on the board and that if he were to fall into their laps, they would seriously look at drafting the young quarterback if all of their top defensive targets are off the board. This could be likely considering that the top linebacker, cornerback, and defensive tackle are all expected to be off the board by the time the Saints select. The addition by Smith is being thought of by many as a possible blessing. There are reportedly several members of the organization that believe the addition of Smith would push Brooks over the hump that he has seem to been stuck at for the past few seasons. Adding Smith would possibly give Brooks some competition which could result in more consistent play from the signal caller, similar to the success he had early in his career while battling Jeff Blake for the position. If that were to turn out not to be the case, the addition of Smith would then give the Saints a young quarterback to groom, who could eventually take over in a year or two. Either way the Saints would make out with either a future starter, or a quality backup who could also be potential trade bait down the road. With only one premier linebacker assured of being an early round selection, a weak defensive tackle draft class after getting past Travis Johnson, and a deep cornerback group which likely will leave several quality corners available in the second round, the possibility of the Saints seriously considering Smith appears to grow every day. While this wouldn’t be a popular choice with many of the Saints’ fans, it is a luxury that the team could consider and execute if they are able to continue to fill need positions through free agency, allowing them to draft the best available player when their turn comes. Either way the situations evolving are resulting in a very interesting off-season for the team and their fans. |

I have a feeling that Smith is gone with the first pick despite all the rumors about Frisco taking Edwards. Despite Rodgers being from right down the road, I think that the Niners will take Smith with the first pick eliminating any chance the Saints ahve at grabbing him.
