Look I get that these are just rumors and all. But this crap last year was a serious distraction. And I really don't want it again. Last year he was flirting with other teams like the Niners and there was all this talk. Now we have to go thru it again? Jesus, I hope the team and the staff make things right here and get out in front of this. Annoying.

If Payton left, he can take Loomis, Vitt, Johnson, McMahon, Fontenot, Baugh, Wooden, Sandusky, Leak and Vitt Jr only with him, and Saints keep Ireland and remaining staff...

Marrone would be okay, but we may not have to geaux far as Dan Campbell could take the reigns...

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports there is "mutual interest" between the Rams and coach Sean Payton.
Payton has been linked to coaching trades with various teams, including the Giants, Colts, and 49ers most recently, over the past few years. Payton was born in California, but grew up in Illinois. He's been openly flirting with other teams for a while now, and Saints GM Mickey Loomis may decided now is the time to trade him after another failed season. New Orleans hasn't made the playoffs since 2013. The Rams don't have many 2017 draft picks to deal for Payton.

I don't see why the Rams would want a coach that went 7-9 the past two seasons and 7-9 or 8-8 this season?

Especially coming from a coach that was notorious for going 7-9 and 8-8 (Jeff Fisher).

Does anyone have even a sliver of actual evidence that Loomis is willing to entertain this?

I find it amazing that year after year these media vultures can stir up rumors without any factual evidence. Literally generating "fake news".

It just feels like the national media wants Payton in a bigger market so they can report on him.

Like someone else said, we have a legit shot at the playoffs this year and they finally have some money to spend. He won't leave now that the team looks finally set up for success. If we miss they playoffs or even get the wild card and lose I can see him going next year.

Best case scenario: Sean P. & John Harbaugh both get fired next season, Saints sign Harbaugh in '18 as HC and Drew beats B-more (final team to beat in his career) with Sean as B-more HC in SB!

Fox 8 reporting Payton and Loomis spoke after game, and apparently Sean is speaking to the Rams now

Correct - even Jim Henderson said it's a real head scratcher and can't fathom why Payton would consider departing at his salary and the cache' the '09 Superbowl gets him...

Not saying it's happening, but Payton talking to the Rams definitely has traction and could prove to be a distraction and credibility issue later...

My question is 'Did Payton tell Loomis they were talking' or did Payton 'ask to speak with the Rams', either way, isn't that tampering without going through proper channels?

As long as Pete Carmichael is still around to run the offense I'm not sure losing Payton hurts us that bad.

Agreed on Pete however I just don't see any new HC (at least a coach who is any good) agreeing to that. They will want to bring in their own staff and that would be key to their success.

I hear ya... However, if it's a guy who has spent time on our coaching staff working with Pete maybe they would be fine with it. Doug Marrone would be one of those guys but I don't know if he'd be a good head coach option or not. Kind of undecided on that.

Hahaha! Wait! How many games has hairball won in the past month??? He's like a badly insane Marty Schonttenheimer. He'll look good in the regular season then do some stupid things (in hairball's case, bad stupidly insane things) in the playoffs to lose.
