Coach Replacements

Has there even been a whisper about who may be coming in to replace all of the BFFs? (Best Former Friends)

Re: Coach Replacements

Nope.

They are probably waiting until after the SB to try luring coaches from other teams.

The firing of the positional coaches, while needed, was a knee jerk reaction. The problem now is, who in the Saints organization can evaluate coaches? We know is not Loomis. We know Payton's modus operandi for evaluating defensive coaches is the "how well the do against my offense?" method. Allen?

We'll see...

Though I don't agree that the firing was a knee jerk reaction considering the level of futility we've had over the past four seasons, I do agree that Payton needs to get some serious outside help in the hiring process. Since our SB win it looks like the only thing worse than our defensive performance on the field is Payton's selection of our defensive coaches.

I'd like somebody who's associated with more success...

The KC Chiefs have been at the top of the food chain on ST these past few seasons and Olivio has been the Assistant ST Coach...

Kansas City Chiefs: Brock Olivo

There are many very good coaches at the college level who would love to come to the NFL.

Brent Venables - DC/LB Clemson
Chris Partridge - ST Michigan

You are right.

What I really wanted to say, I didn't think there was a plan of action before the firings. The most important thing, though, I don't feel warm and fuzzy about anyone in the Saints staff being able to make an effective hire on that side of the ball. Like the ST coach mentioned in the Underhill tweet about the SF ST coach, who has bounced around from team to team (5 teams in the last 8 years) as an Assistant ST coach.

Keep in mind, we signed Jeff Ireland off the bleachers at the Senior Bowl.

I hope the Saints keep Coach O'Dea in some capacity. Lutz's kicking trajectory instantly improved once he was brought on board.

That is true.
But then, blind squirrel, broken clock, et al :)

Really surprised we don't have our coaches hired with the Senior Game just about 10 days away...

Ever research Peter Guinta our senior defensive cordinator assistant or whatever you call his made up title? He has basically been over secondarys. I looked him up yesterday. I guess he takes over as DC if Allen bombs.

Kevin O'Dea is almost certainly taking the ST spot, so that leaves what two, LB and DL?

I'm not so sure about that one.

Now that Kansas City has been eliminated from the post season play, I hope Saints FO will reach out to Coach Olivo (assistant of Dave Toub). He in addition to O'Dea would do absolute wonders for our special teams.

Re: Coach Replacements

O'Dea is a kicking specialist I believe. Apparently we need someone for the return game to finally get a system for a consistent return game from punts and kick off returns........maybe someone who understands an effective blocking scheme?

yeah I don't know, but I know things improved once he got on board lol

Re: Coach Replacements

There may not be much movement on the assistant coaching front until the Patriots season is over. You know how joined at the hip the Patriots and Saints have been. Payton may already have a couple of "wink, wink" agreements with some New England assistants.

Ray Ventrone, Assistant Special Teams Coach, is a possibility. Belichick wouldn't stand in the way of a upward move by one of his assistants. And LB's coach, Brian Flores, probably has an assistant that could come into play.

So I wonder............"If he's still dead, will he be hurting tomorrow"?

I was wondering if we need to move this to the Zombie group discussion?

I know this thread is about OUR coaching replacements, but if you need to laugh in light of the Failclowns going to the Super Bowl... Apparently Chip Kelly is likely to be their OC next season when Shanahan leaves for the 49ers. Hope they enjoy this run because if that happens it'll be back to mediocrity.

Sounds like the Falcons already have their hires in place and their still in the middle of battle...

Senior Week is starting and Loomis/Payton still have not hired a defensive line coach, linebackers coach, not special teams coaches...

And then there's this non-report Payton's associate was gauging interest with the Colts...

So long as Loomis is GM, and that will be as long as Tommy's eating crabs on the couch in his bib and skivs, this dysfunctional mess will not get straightened out...

Kind of sad we don't already have them in place for them to be able to gauge the talent. I just hope we get good coaches to teach fundimentals instead of puppets on a string like we had.

I have a feeling some of them are still coaching this season.

I don't see Quinn letting his D staff go anywhere and I don't see the Pats having any that would want to leave unless they upgraded at their positions. It would only be assistants, if then.

I pointed out Ray Ventrone, Assistant Special Teams Coach, in an earlier thread and James Hardy, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach could be another possibility. You know how close of a working arrangement the Saints have with the Patriots. And I couldn't see Quinn standing in the way of an upgrade in position for one of his staffers. And whoi knows, it could be someone off the Packers.
