Let's see how Loomis screws this up.

This organization is first class from top to bottom and one win away from going back to yet another SB.

If you include the bonus conversions that Loomis always writes into his contracts and the probable annual extension to Brees' contract the total free cap space can approach the $50 million range.

I thought Brees said he's going to go year by year and wasn't going to sign an extension until after he's played out his current contract.

Man they manage things well. It almost seems unfair.

I haven't seen that anywhere about not doing anything until playing out his contract. Payton said he is committed to staying in New Orleans through the end of HIS contract, at least. The only thing Brees has said is, "I'll be here as long as they'll have me."

The hardest part is not so much the space but getting good FA's. Who would want to play for say the Browns. We are not in an awful position but if you want to win we would likely not make the short list for most good FA's.

I wouldn't be so sure. Look at what Atlanta did between last season and this season. They were coming off a season in which the lost eight of their last eleven games. By adding a couple of free agents and getting lucky on a couple of draft picks they ended up going 11-5 and winning the division. The same can easily happen with the Saints. Any FA would love to be part of that emergence.

I agree with you.

Problem with having that much money to spend(Browns) is that there aren't enough good FAs to spend it all on because you still have 31 other teams in the market as well. It also means you currently have little to 0 depth.

So you end up like TB did a few years ago when they had like 80 million to spend, way overpaying for a few good players, "winning" FA, and still being a terrible team.

Drew Brees planning to play out final year of contract in 2017 | NOLA.com

I wouldn't post it if I didn't read it or see it somewhere.

Drew Brees not planning to push for contract extension this time around - New Orleans Saints Blog- ESPN

“I signed a one-year extension ... so I plan on playing that out and just allowing things to take form and take shape here for next year and putting forth my absolute best effort to help us win a division championship and then a world championship and then again, just one year at a time,” Brees said. “And that’s not a lack of commitment or anything like that. I just want to focus on what’s right in front of me.”
