Re: Saints Interviewing Jim Tomsula - YES!!!

I am really beginning to understand just how much a good position coach can help elevate the entire team. I am excited about the D-line potential with Jordan, Rankins, Fairley, Davison and Onyemata. This is a talented and athletic group that can get after the QB and stop the run. I actually thought Bill Johnson did an adequate job of coaching up Onyemata and Davison last season but it was too little too late.

That begs the question what kind of coach do we need a teacher or a schemer

I'd say we need a teacher more than anything. The schemes looks alright but technique could be better a lot of times.

Look at the impact Coach Glenn had for the DB, we had a very depleted secondary and he got production out of UDFAs and journeymen. I think a good teacher as D-line coach could have a similar impact.

+1. Davison, Onyemata, Rankins, in addition to our new draft class (assuming we go D line/LB) could learn a lot from Jim . Remember the likes of Justin Smith, Aldon Smith, Bowman etc? All talented players but improved significantly under the tutelage of Tomsula ;).

Good post. We have young players that need teaching first, Onyemata showed good promise for a 5th round pick, with some help on his fundamentals he could turn into a very good player.

Onyemata is a physical specimen. Jordan described him as "strong as an ox", and thats saying something when an NFL player says it about another, he could do big things if coached well.

Davidson was a 5th rounder also. He has well outplayed his draft status. I still think drafting another NT to go along with Davidson, Ony., and Rankins would be a great move with Tumsula as D line coach. Not only would we be one of the youngest middles, it wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg in free agency. It would allow us to go after key players on the D side. Our cb's are made of glass and I like the thought if we have to pay a good FA cb. that we don't have to shell out a kings ranson on the D line.
