He's probably gone then.

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if we could get Hankins, I don't think it would do us any good to sign Fairley to a big contract.

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
I don't blame him... This could be his last significant contract. He seems to have conquered his demons and I think he's proven himself. If we lowball him then shame on us. He should be able to get between $6-9 million/year.
|
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
I don't think we will low ball him, but a bad team may overpay for him.

See ya Nick, thanks for helping our future all pro Sheldon Rankins get ready!

Bennie Logan, Dontari Poe, Calais Campbell, Chris Baker, Brandon Williams...

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
Let him and his agent set the market and come back with some numbers...
If he truly wants to be here, he'll sign and give as much as a 10% hometown discount... Problem is that we now have Rankins and Onyemata, unless Ony moves to DE... Even then, do you want to commit that kind of money to a guy who'll be on limited snaps, a situational player? Davison is a beast for us at the Nose, and we've got two FA futures who are more than capable of backing him up... And then we have the draft coming as well... |

Will he turn down $6.5 if the Saints offer $4.5? Of course not. But Seattle is a hell of a lot farther from Mobile than NOLA is, and it might save us half a million. The guy has made some money over his career, so the "last big contract" thing might be overblown. |
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
I would offer him a two yr deal at fair value 1yr guarantee no more. If he walks Cie La Vie.

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
I very much want him back, he has had the best pass rush production from an interior lineman for the Saints since forever. But the price needs to be right. No more than 5-6 mil/year.

The past two years have been Nick's first opportunities to shine out right. He flashed in Motown (Detroit). At least I thought so. One could argue that this past season in NO was his first true shot, because the Rams are loaded with defensive talent. In LA/Stl, Donald is the future at 3 tech, so NF wasn't going to get a load of production there either. I want to bring Fairley back, but it's a tricky situation. He may not like the idea of a very heavy incentive contract considering this could be his "big" signing. As far as will he play as great as he previously, I've seen nothing that would believe me to think he will pull a Haynesworth on us. Nick has played great for us. Our defense has been perennially bad. Even if we are somewhat "loaded" at DT with Rankins, Davison etc, having solid rotation on the front four allows us to blitz less & slow down offenses with more bodies in the back seven. The guy has been in the league for a few years and knows how to be a Pro, is on a hometown team & knows he has a legitimate shot to win a ring with Brees and company. The market in the NFL is what matters. Flame away :handguns:. |
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
Certainly hard to find a good DT these days or one that can play within the Disney rules. Back in the day swiping a QB in the head was par for the course.
If he warranted constant double teams that would be the only way. He does not so he will be home shopping. |

I think he played well, but that he is just not a top 12 DT. Some team might think he is worth $6 million, but I personally don't |

Nick was disruptive most of the year but at the end of the day, the NFL is a business and he should receive what the market will pay. |

Cap is going up, but giving him that kind of money is way too risky. Talk about overpaying. I'd rather spend a little more and sign guys like Jones, Zeitler, JPP... For 9mil you can probably sign Hightower or maybe even Zeitler... |

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
9 million? GTFOOH. That's top 20% money.
He had 43 tackles last year and we gave up 4.8 ypc. Let someone pay that to offset our signings, and maybe we actually will get a comp pick in '18 |
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
Yeah, no way. Just draft one.
|
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
oh no, not even 6 mil, please we've been here before, once paid they layed and collected. lets let him test the market and when the browns give him 5 yr 45 mil contract we will bow and thank him for his services. its the nature of the beast. THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE-----------------------------

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
I want him back but if he's looking for around $10 million/year then I'm out. We just spent 3 draft picks last year on Rankins and Onyemata and drafted Davison the year before. If we upgrade at DE opposite Jordan then I think our D-Line will be fine without Fairley.
|
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
If I'm paying that type of money I want the NT from Baltimore thats a FA. Better options out there for a price tag like that. I draft a NT to rotate with Davison and slide Onyemata to rotate with Rankins. All these players can slide in and out and are cheap for years, it also allows us to shore up other positions with huge savings.

I'm not paying anything that would piss off Cam Jordan.
He started the party. Not Nick Fairely. We have a new DLine coach who could really develop the Big O from Canada and Teyler Davison |
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
20 sacks in SIX years ...averages 30 tackles a year.
Yes, he is coming of a career best year, but seriously, anything over 5 is insane. He did play 68% of the defensive snap counts, which is on the high end of "rotational", but remember that number dropped once Rankins came back. |
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
Rankins
Oynemata Davison I don't know why experts are reporting we have "nothing if Fairly leaves"... We can still sign a DT and draft a DT |
Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
This position is also one of the worse with production dropping off after they hit pay dirt. We would have to be in a bad spot to even consider it. He has also had a goofy career. Not consistent at all, some of that is due to injury but not all of it.

Somebody is about to get ripped off. Probably the Browns.

Re: Nick Fairley expected to test Free Agency
I don't see the FO offering anything crazy. He's probably gonna go for a big offer somewhere else. He'd be great to have but not at a monster contract.
