Re: Saints should stay away from WR market come free agency time

The only thing I am concerned with......is a Thomas regression. And I don't mean performance. Look all over the NFL. First year standouts mostly have lackluster second seasons then come back in the third. It's mostly a result of injuries. If Thomas gets hurt, do we have enough?

Why even worry about year 3?

As far as lackluster second seasons .. they just don't happen in New Orleans at the WR position. Meachem's sophomore year? His best season in his career with 45 catches for 722 yards and 9 touchdowns. Or circle back to the great Marques Colston 98 catches for 1,202 yards and 11 touchdowns his sophomore year. Devery Henderson's sophomore year was Curtis Johnson's first year... Henderson went from 22 catches, 343 yards, and 3 touchdowns in 2005 to 32 catches for 745 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2006. Jimmy Dickens sophomore year was a measly 99 receptions for 1,310 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Facts .

I don't have Cooks numbers readily available his 2nd season but you get the idea.

Two words: Curtis Martin!

We don't need to spend money on another WR.

You're mostly citing second seasons following worser seasons. Meachem was not getting more looks until 2009. He did not do as well in 2010. Lance Moore had a good year in 2008, and was injured most of 2009. Colston also had injuries in his rookie season, but after 2007 he also missed games in 2008.
