PFF: Free Agency Preview: New Orleans Saints

What you need to know
The Saints are in a pretty good position with nearly $30 million in cap space and few of their own players to re-sign. They should have plenty of room to go after a top-tier free agent, or with New Orleans having big needs at a few positions, going after multiple second-tier players.

Salary cap room
$28,347,284 (19th in NFL; as of 2/28/2017)

Biggest needs
Defensive end
Guard
Cornerback
Linebacker

Brandon Williams NT= most likely makes us the best interior line in the NFL, no more Mississippi 1-9 count anymore on passing downs and let teams try to run up the middle, that crap is shut down. AJ Kline MLB= tough to run in the middle. I slide Anthony back to the MLB spot and that position is set for years for solid rotation. K. Zeiter OG- helps solidify the O-line. CB's might be a problem in FA. I like OLB Cunninham in the draft and slide Robertson back to OLB. Ellerbe and Stupar are set. I'm also liking the North Dakota DE more and more for his ability to contain and rush. And at SS I would take Peppers in a heartbeat.

This gives me chills just thinking about it. But I'd be happy if even two of these signings were to actually happen.

Except for Anthony.....I think he's a lost cause in a 4-3 and would be better in a 3-4. We'll see what Nolan can do for him.

We have a very good NT who was injured in Game 2 and played the entire season with the injury...

Our defense against the run improved all the way to 14th and that was despite two games where the Falcons went off in that dept.

And in those games Davison missed Week 3, his only game missed, and in the second half of Week; and in Week 17 we shut them out in the run game after their initial blitz and nearly came back and won the finale...

Incidently, New England followed the same strategy and managed to win the Superbowl...

We need to address other positions starting DE, LB, and Safety so let's deal with those next...

Have no problem getting another interior defensive linemen as we'll need one to go with Rankins, Onyemata and Davison, but spending big their when we only have Cam Jordan at DE doesn't seem prudent with our cap funds...

Not to mention we need another linebacker with Mauti ill and another safety with Byrd's release...

I'd rather get a young mid-round NT like Vanderdoes from UCLA who can come in and learn behind Davison and not have all that cap money locked up in one spot...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
