Round 1 (No. 11 overall): DE Derek Barnett, Tennessee
I’ll wrestle with this pick until the draft. There will be defensive end/edge defender type players available for the taking at this spot. Players like Barnett, Michigan’s Taco Charlton and Temple’s Haason Reddick are a few names sticking out to me as potential picks for No. 11 with good pass-rushing abilities. For now, my pick is Barnett. My logic at this point is the same logic I carried during a few of my mock drafts last offseason. I valued overall production with former Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson until I realized his health could be a red flag. I ended up like many of the draft pundits turning to Sheldon Rankins in the end. I can’t see this pick being as clear-cut as Rankins. Barnett (CBS Sports: Robert Ayers; NFL.com: Nick Perry) doesn’t carry with him the same lofty comparisons as Charlton (CBS Sports: Chandler Jones; NFL.com: Justin Tuck). I’m going more for the consistent player in college. The 6-foot-3, 259-pounder led the SEC in tackles for a loss his freshman season with 20½ and tallied 10 sacks. He piled up 10 more sacks his sophomore campaign. Finally, Barnett earned first-team All-American honors with 12 sacks. Maybe I flip at some point, but Barnett seems like someone you know can help the Saints defense right away. read more on NOLA He's got , get this, TWO LSU PLAYERS in this latest mock. Nice if that actually happens. |

Then if we can get Butler too...I can see our nickel package now.

I'll be a bit surprised if Samuel's still on the board at #42. Maybe even a little more surprised if we're still on the board if you know what I mean.

Not a pick in this mock for the saints I don't like. I still feel we need a safety somewhere in the draft.
