all of these guys are better than what we have on our roster... I am good with it. Bring in any and every body to compete for a job. As bad as our D has been no one is safe.

Makes for good competition I doubt all these LB's make it on the final 53, hopefully lights a fire under #50

More and more it seems like Stephone is toast. I hope we can at least get something for him but at this rate I doubt it.

He has missed 26 games. Reminds me when Haslett I believe drafted a late round WR with a rebuilt knee made form horse parts or something. This is not going to work out at all.

How can a standout 1 rd drafted rookie (led in tackles and made the 1st 2 points conversion while on defense) fall this far under grace that he don't even start the following season at his position of mlb(not even preseason)

I would like to know what transpired that made coaching staff give up on him before he even hit the field. I am hoping that this is just bringing in competition to make him better. ~~~Stephone Anthony~~~

Want to improve special teams play? Quality backups at LB are one of the main keys. Not saying he is an answer, just saying.

I'm guessing he gets a deal similar to Okafor- low risk/base, high incentive.

He's glass like Ellerbe...maybe we can 16 games out of the pair.

Today's Trivia: he would make Saint #4 from Hawaii on our current roster

If he'll dedicate the same amount of work into his craft as he did in pretending he had a girlfriend - and later that she was dead - then the sky is the limit.

Allen didn't draft him, thats why. He played much better than I would have ever thought his 1st season with that gaping hole in what we had on the front line, he was like the lone man standsing everytime stoping a rb that could have did alot more damage than they did. Enter Allen and he acts like the kid is junk, I'm calling BS on this one. Allen never give this kid a chance to develop and has possibly screwed up a good player. And Paytons going to back his boy Allen. If Allen screws the pooch and don't field a decent ranking D this season him and Payton need to go.

Why are people thinking we are bringing in starters? You don't bring in people to replace anyone in particular at this point. You bring in people to compete for roster spots in whatever capacity. If Te'o make the squad and contributes in a positive manner then fantastic.

[soapbox]
And, as long as he is a Saint, let's try to drop the ridicule. Being supportive is more constructive. I'm sure each of us has had something happen to us in our past that we would rather be left alone.

Having a sense of humor is not a bad thing. Everybody makes mistakes, but it's not every day you hear that someone has faked the very existence of a person and gotten millions of people worked up about the "death" of said person. That's a little bit different from the norm.

I guess you didn't hear the whole story. Someone actually admitted to tricking him. He didn't make anything up. He was duped by someone. He was taken advantage of. The bad part is that even after he had to go through the initial shame, he is being forced to put up with the fact that many people, such as yourself, never did learn the real facts, or have chosen to ignore them for the pleasure of ridicule. I'm hoping that others around here are not second category. Humor is fine, but not at the expense of others. Then it simply becomes cruelty.

It's been a few years, and I don't remember every single detail, though yes, I do remember he got tricked. However, didn't he continue, after finding out the truth, to pretend that he had a girlfriend and then that she had died? And thought nobody would look into it?

No. He had been trying to meet the faked girl in person and was told by someone connected with the ruse that she had just died when they got backed into a corner. To make matters worse, it was on the same day as his own grandmother passed. The kid went through hell. I have nothing but respect for him that he has made it through that ridicule and has the strength to continue to live with the misconceptions still out there in the public. That tells me he is tough.

I'm not trying to bring any undue ridicule upon him. I'm going with the reports that were out there. And Te'o, himself, couldn't get his own stories straight.

I just went and looked at some of what was said, to refresh my memory, and I see that Notre Dame's athletic director said that Te'o hadn't told Notre Dame until Dec 26th of that year, but Te'o told ESPN that his fake girlfriend (who was a guy, of course) revealed the hoax to him on the 6th. Yet, it was two days later, on the 8th, that he told some reporters that he had lost both his grandparents and his girlfriend to cancer.

He also had some flowery stories that he made up for the local newspaper in South Bend, when they interviewed him at some point, about how he "met" (in person, according to this story) this supposed girlfriend. He claimed he met "her" after a road loss at Stanford in November 2009.

I'm looking at a whole lot of inconsistency there. If you'd like to debunk any of that, I encourage you to do so. I have no axe to grind. But I can't look at all of that, and think that Te'o was just an innocent victim. It seems like he got punked and didn't want to admit it, and perpetuated the problem.

Oh, no doubt he was hesitant to fess up when he found out the truth. Have you never, when young, chose to "stretch the truth," instead coming clean? To me that's not a terrible character flaw. That is being human and vulnerable.

In all, he has moved on as should all.

Of course people can stretch the truth. But you don't let a lie about someone dying, that has people all over the country feeling sorry for you, just float along for more than a month. I'm not saying he can't be forgiven. But I don't recall ever hearing him really admit to being wrong. He just kind of tried to play it off. Maybe I'm wrong, but I sure don't remember him really taking much responsibility.

The biggest thing about why I wanted to dig up those events, and the inconsistencies, is because you basically accused me of being a know-nothing hack on a witch hunt. You said I didn't read the actual story, but it would seem that I did.

What do you mean we "uncovered" him, and who said he was the only one who ever said or did something really stupid?

I got it. Everyone is open to joking about dumb things athletes do, until they come here, then we can be pious toward others for making the exact same jokes, or any reference that isn't flattering.

Really not understanding a two year deal on someone who missed almost 2 out of 4 years of playing and just recovered from another serious injury. Very high risk move. He was also slow before any injuries. Our LT could out run him.

Smart player, but flat-footed and slow. Depth and special teams. Can he play Sam?

Yeah, he's probably a decent player in a somewhat limited role, but I don't know how much we can depend on him being on the field. I wonder what the money is on this deal.

It's really only a year contract. It's just that it's gonna take two years to get one season out of him...

He's a Nolan guy. That's why he's here. And if Nolan thinks he can get something out of him then fine with me. At worst he's depth.

Absolutely. All humor aside, we're eventually gonna get it right with signing a formerly injured player and really score. Hopefully, we're figuring out not to spend too much on'em.... at least at first anyways.

Re: Another lb close to signing with saints

Armstead could out run a good handful of LB's so not really fair but after all these injuries certainly not going make him faster. He was already on the slower part of the scale. Smart player though when healthy in certain situations. As a starter no way.
