Browns could trade down from No. 3

Two teams picking in the top five — the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns — are willing to entertain suitors looking to move into the second and third overall selection spots. Although no candidates have emerged, there are some rumblings around the league. Rumor has it that the Arizona Cardinals could be looking to move into the top five, increasing their chances of having a shot at one of the Auburn backs, Ronnie Brown or Cadillac Williams. They may be eyeing Cleveland to move up the board.

The Browns could go in a number of directions should they stay put at No. 3: linebacker, quarterback, offensive line and the dark horse, wide receiver.

The Browns have scheduled a visit with South Carolina WR Troy Williamson, who is due in Cleveland within the next two weeks. The third spot may be a bit high for the speedster, but not if the club should decide to trade down. Another prospect who intrigues the Browns is Florida State defensive end/outside linebacker Eric Moore.

According to a source close to the situation, members of the Browns organization flew out to meet with Moore during the Hula Bowl. Moore is projected to go anywhere between the second and third round. The Bengals, sitting in the 17th slot, have been long-rumored to be targeting Georgia safety Thomas Davis, a ferocious hitter and difference-maker on defense. However, the Bengals are not alone in their possible interest in Davis. The New Orleans Saints, who own the 16th pick, are very interested in the All-American.

The only knock on Davis is that some scouts have doubts about his ability to drop back into pass coverage. Davis ran between a 4.58 and 4.65 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine last month while weighing 230 pounds, thus raising questions about him playing safety due to a lack of speed. It is almost certain that Davis will be converted to outside linebacker in the pros.

One prospect the Bengals could have their eye on in the later rounds is South Carolina middle linebacker Marcus Lawrence. The team is believed to be enamored with the linebacker's versatility. Bengals scouts watched him very closely at the school's pro day on Wednesday.
