not a huge Mark Ingram fan really. he has his moments and he has gotten better in the past few years. so i really never bash him. i always look for a complementary back to help him our, like Christian.

I love Ingram. I'm not an Alabama homer or an LSU homer. I just like when he runs angry. He had a great year on a pass first team. MI is the real deal.

I think he's gonna really run well this year. I'm on board with a McCaffrey pick. But I love to watch Mark run.

Ingram is alright. Decent pick minus turf toe, out running his blockers half the time and horrible vision.

I'm thinking a very solid no though on offense in RND 1. We didn't get rid of a 2X 1,000 yard WR to get an unproven scatback.

Ingram is solid. The Saints would be more solid with McCaffrey and Ingram.

White RBs Never Picked in First Round?

I would not be happy if we made that pick in the 1st round. We traded our most explosive player on offense to get better on defense. That is what we need to do....focus on defense. After last year we saw that you cannot have enough quality depth on that side of the ball.

CM will probably be a good back but I'm concerned about his longevity at this level after how much Stanford used him. Also, if he's not an every down back then thats too high for him. We will use him in sub-packages and face it....we are not going to all of a sudden become a run heavy offense. I just don't think we will get the return we need at that pick. We are good at finding offensive talent in later picks. I still believe we need to go defense in the first round.

And that is what Loomis clearly stated. We are going defense, probably the first 3 picks. Unless of course something insane happens which Loomis also stated that will also likely happen. I could see us trading up to get the best defender we can with the 11 and 32 then maybe offense right after it.

I just don't see these two events being connected to one another. With Cooks, there was an upcoming long term big money investment coming starting with the $750k roster bonus due at the beginning of March. Why pour money into a guy that you don't plan to keep?

Getting better on defense is a given, but I don't believe the motivation for trading Cooks was specifically to do that IMO.

I agree. The offense/defense talent imbalance is still tilted. The defense needs more, and better, people to catch up.

Take Drew Brees out and you really think that is true?

That's a what if that ain't coming true; at least not for a season or two...

Re: Saints Pick Christian McCaffrey RB at #11

11 - O.J. Howard TE Alabama 6056 251 4.51 #88 Sr

Let say Sharper is right and the white boy drops
32 - Christian McCaffrey RB/WR/KR Stanford 5115 205 4.48 Jr

The rumor is right and he goes in the 2nd not in the 3rd
42 - Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma 6011 226 4.50 #25 rSo

What the heck add another tool
76 - Adoree' Jackson CB/WR/KR/PR USC 5105 186 4.43 #2 Jr

Only thing missing is a power back with excellent blocking skill set.
103 - Brian Hill RB Wyoming 6010 219 4.54 #5 Jr

Lets see what saints nation would do. DC will be drinking heavy and dreading the day when they play the saints.

That's a hypothetical discussion. Until Brees is no longer playing for the Saints, it's not a part of the discussion.

There's a draft and free agency each and every year. When Brees is no longer a part of the equation, then compensating for his absence becomes an issue, not before.

Also as stated earlier in this thread, a good defense can compensate for a young or average QB. So even in the hypothetical case of Brees' departure the Saints still need a better defense to compensate for the loss.

All I can tell you is if the Saints pick McCaffery at 11, I'll have the look that the Jets fans seemed to have at the draft each and every year:

If we draft Fournette, where does that leave Ingram?

I'm waiting to see what a improved defense does against a decent offense with a already great defense(Detroit). If we continue the puntfest we have the last two years against that team we'll know something. Oh, and Minnesota is not gonna be a walk in the park either.

Re: Saints Pick Christian McCaffrey RB at #11

"...a decent offense with an already great defense(Detroit)."

Detroit's defense ranked:
18th in total yards
13th in points allowed
30th in sacks
23rd in interceptions
19th in pass yards allowed
18th in rushing yards allowed
20th in yards per carry
22nd in yards per pass
31st in 3rd down percentage
22nd in 1st/Goal percentage.

What is it about their defense that makes you think it is "already great"?

5.1 yards per carry on over 200 carries. That's the 5th highest YPC in the NFL last year.

I hope he disappoints like that again next season.

Lls...ok I thought I missed something. Keep up the disappointment Mark!

Re: Saints Pick Christian McCaffrey RB at #11

Why waste a pick on Christian in the first whether its a trade or not when you can Joe Mixon in later rounds, who would be a top ten pick if it wasn't for the off the field incident. That makes better sense to me. Going offense with the first pick is not the most appealing move or the smartest in my book.

Mixon will be gone in the second if he lasts that long

We won't draft Fournette. So it's a moot point.

McCaffery is not the best player available at 11. Now if he is on the board at 32 what do you do?
