Drew Brees calls Brandin Cooks trade “one of those unfortunate things”

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; That's on SP and Brees for not following the gameplan. Cooks won the game in Arizona, something I'm sure Ginny could not do. Each game needs a different receiver....

This is why we needed to get rid of him. We needed defense more.

Something you will never seen in New Orleans...

I didn't start it, someone else said on here that Cooks complained about getting no catches in the rams game that Brees decided to force it to him in the lions' game. I put my take on it because it's hard to understand if people actually know what they are talking about.

If you are going to whine then you had better produce!
In the lions game, Cooks issues were more on Brees because the running game suffered. The lions also had a pass rusher named Ezekiel Ansah. This has been Brees' biggest weakness. He can pick apart a secondary but he cannot beat elite pass rushers on teams that stop the run.

Seriously? It's on Drew Brees because Cooks dropped passes? If that's the case with Ginn catching balls from Brees then we're screwed.....

Cooks was limited in his repertoire and Payton had bigger visions for him in the game plan when we traded up in the first round to get him. He was not a good return man and wasn't very elusive. But he was fast and when Drew dropped the ball in for Cooks at full speed it was a thing of beauty. Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem were fast too.....Drew made them look good. So did Curtis Johnson the receivers coach. Who incidentally is back coaching our receivers both young and old with his impressive coaching techniques and style.

My point is Drew made those fast receivers look good not the other way around. He does it consistently and elevates the team around him in almost every game he's played as a Saint.

He's human and makes mistakes. Everyone does. Even I do. So do you. You just have to learn from your mistakes and he's a student of the game. He is one of the best prepared men in the game and keeps himself in peak physical condition to perform at his maximum every game.

I don't understand how you evaluate this team. It's obvious that you love them but get a big screen color TV so you can see what's going on.

Timing. It was off. Yeah those receivers were great because of Drew but Drew cannot make a skillset happen for a receiver that does not have it. Again, if you think Ted Ginn Jr explodes for 180 yards and two TDs under the same circumstances, I don't know what to tell you.

You are reaffirming that Brees was trying to throw the ball to Cooks after his meltdown and again, as I said, the final decision is doing what helps you win. Therefore, if ignoring a wide open Thomas all game is doing what helps one win(and Fleener got a good bit of targets in this game as well). However, that's not why. When the pocket collapses there is a lack of rhythym. When Brees is forced to throw because his running game is taken away he's less accurate. Whether Cooks dropped the passes or not, it was a tough matchup and lions players admitted to spoofing Cooks. The running game was off, Fleener continuing his schtick, and Thomas not fast enough(as it's not his strength) for Brees to notice downfield. This was the kind of game that was evident why Kamara was drafted. That was one weakness of the lions defense being a pass catching back. Also TE, and well.......
