Jamal Adams at #11?

He just ran a 4.38 at LSU's pro day.

Jamal Adams runs much faster at LSU’s pro day | ProFootballTalk

I know... I know.. he's an LSU player. So fat chance. Maybe SP has turned over a new leaf?

Top 5 pick by all accounts.

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

After his pro day he could go #1. No way he falls to 11. I would love to trade up to get him. Trade both rd1's to Cleveland. They want all the draft picks they can get

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

If he somehow slid that far, hell yes I'd take him in a heartbeat. But he won't, unless it's a Laremy Tunsil type of thing. In which case I'd probably still take him.

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

Maybe it's time to start a let'e slobber over all of the picks who will NEVER fall to eleven vs Hell No! Don't trade up! vs falling asleep cat thread....

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

Can he set the edge and/or rush the passer? An end opposite Cam Jordan is much more of a need than safety at #11...

If all of the stud DE's are gone at 11, we shouldn't reach for one.

Never reach for a need.

There may be numerous options at 32 to address DE.

Pick a bonafied stud at 11, not some 2nd rounder just because we have a need.

I'd rather an A-player at 11 than a B-player.

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

The clocks on campus were showing a 4.33 time for Adams but there’s traditionally some home-cooking involved at every pro day, and the only real “official” times are the ones the teams themselves harvest and keep for their own uses.

4.56 to a 4.33. Possible but improbable. I also question LF's Jenny Craig commercial. Both possible but likely some elevated fish size going off of historical PD with Combine.

Taco Charlton and Derek Barnett both should be there at #11

Should.

Both of them are fine prospects and I'd be fine with either one, but Adams may be the next Ed Reed only better.

Do you pass up what many consider a 10 year all-pro prospect just because of need?

Drafting for need is a huge mistake.

Sources have said that Charlton should go in the top half of the first round and has a shot at going in the top 10. He has an excellent skill set with athletic upside for the NFL. Numerous scouts have compared Charlton to Carlos Dunlap and think he could be that kind of edge defender.

Taco Charlton could be the next JJ Watt; only better... Hindsight is always 20/20

Or he could be the next Jarvis Jones, only worse.

Same could be said about Jamal Adams; Hindsight is always 20/20... No need to argue about it though, Adams won't be there at #11...

Probably true Mitch, but I'd think the consensus is that Adams has a much better chance of becoming a perennial All-Pro than either Taco or Barnett.

But I'd have no problem with any of those three at #11. I'd just prefer Adams even though its not a glaring need.

Danno 04-05-2017 07:23 PM

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

To me its similar to the freakish scenario of Jonathan Allen dropping to 11 (yeah I know, NFW).

Even though a stud 3-tech isn't a need for us in 2017, do you pass up what many think might be Warren Sapp talent just because you have some decent guys already on the roster?

Just food for thought. Those decisions are way above my pay grade.

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

We are not getting any LSU players. For that to happen Sandra Bullocks would have to make Blind Side II and his dream would have to be to play for the Saints.

What about Solomon Thomas at 11? I think he will be a perfect fit as well.

Excellent prospect however most analyst/scouts don't see Solomon getting past the Niners at pick #2.

That's exactly what they were saying on NFL Radio today. Never believe pro day times.

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

While we need an edge rusher desperately, you take the BPA on the defensive side of the ball at 11. This draft is deep with pass rush. Adams, Lattimore, Hooker, or Solomon Thomas if he falls are easy picks if they are there at 11. Barnett and Taco are easily more of a reach.

I agree. My priority would be pass rusher, of course, but ONLY if there is a player of a high enough caliber to be taken in that spot. There are certain positions we just don't need to take at 11, but as long as it's defense, in general, if you've got a potential star in your lap, you have to take him.

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

he is one of a handful I would draft without a second thought at 11. After the hand full are off the board I say trade back and go quantity of players with hype.

Jamal Adams SS LSU 5115 211 4.33 #33 Jr
Key:
arms 33 3/8
worries
Vert 31.5

Roster issue
pure safety prospect. tough against the run, instinctive, and holds his own in coverage. “He’s a thumper,” one scout said. “He defines the position of strong safety.”

Main issue question
what do you do after a pick like this on a team over loaded with SS?

I would love the issue. But adding talent like this makes the need for new talent at CB and FS a bigger need

Perfect pairing?
Quincy Wilson CB/FS Florida 6012 211 4.54 #6 Jr
Marcus Williams FS Utah 6005 202 4.56 #20 Jr
Rasul Douglas CB West Virginia:6012 208 4.56 #13 rSr

Please list your handful of players; I for one would like to know...

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

Myles Garrett
Jamal Adams
Solomon Thomas
Jonathan Allen

^ They're all players I would love to see in the black and gold, and their all players highly unlikely to still be on the board when we're picking at 11. I truly believe Derek Barnett is the safest pick and most likely to be there when it's our turn to select. However, if Reuben Foster is there I'm taking him. It's likes this for me:

1. Reuben Foster (If available.)
2. Derek Barnett (If Foster isn't available.)
3. BPA (If neither are available.)

Simple as that. I'm with Danno. We shouldn't reach for a need. If the first two prospects are gone and Mike Williams is the best player there, take him. If O.J. Howard is the best prospect, take him. If Dalvin Cook or Marshon Lattimore are there, it's whatever. Either trade back, or take BPA.

K Major 04-06-2017 09:18 AM

Re: Jamal Adams at #11?

Barnett or Foster will be taken by the Bengals.

We should be prepared to select either of the two @ 11. Many compare Barnett to Terrell Suggs and Reuben Foster with Patrick Willis. No way I'm passing on these prospects (if available). Impact players from day 1.

Where is Foster going to line up though
Can he play on the outside because it looks like Klein was brought in ofr MLB and Teo as a shot to back him up

He's projects well as a WLB in a 4-3.

Totally agree about not reaching for a player. Our defense has very few top quality players. Jamal Adams would be an immediate upgrade. Doubt that he makes it to #11
