AP Coming for a visit???

Saints to meet with running back Adrian Peterson next week: report | NOLA.com

Doubt we have the Cap Space to make a decent offer

Maybe he's just stopping by for some gumbo and a couple of Abitas. I know if I was in his position, I do The Big Easy visit just for the food and the nightlife.

Vet Minimum. Incentive-laden. He can come in and compete.

Otherwise thanks for stopping by - have some gumbo...don't drop it!

I like it!!!

I don't think Ingram is going to like it one bit though.

Whoa! Didn't see that one coming.

I have always liked AP the football player so why not.
It would be interesting to see how that would be done with him and Ingram quite similar as runners.

Meh, just like that car you really, really liked when you were a youngster. Even though there are better, cooler, lower mileage cars out there now, you'll still kick its tires if you see it in the used car lot somewhere around town.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

I doubt he ends up here. Payton has already commented on what a great RB class this is.

I think we go the draft route on a RB.

Besides, I don't think AP receives out of the backfield much.

ChrisXVI 04-06-2017 04:21 PM

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

I don't really see the fit now that I think about it. AP doesn't really catch passes or pass block and primarily runs from the I-formation.

Nobody ever really tried to utilize him as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Every coach he's ever had just lined him up and ran him down the throat of the opposition. He's definitely horrible in pass protection though.

With all that said, would I sign Adrian Peterson? Hell yeah...and I'd still draft Joe Mixon in the 3rd. We haven't had anybody remotely close to the level of Adrian Peterson running the ball since Deuce McAllister.

Good points Rez. I guess maybe skill-set wise AP would be a little like Chris Ivory was in our offense. Pretty one-dimensional but after he stiff-arms a couple Failclowns we'll be very happy!

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Does he "have to have" 20+ touches to get going? He wouldn't get a ton of carries each game.

neugey 04-06-2017 05:29 PM

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

The real benefit of AP is going into singleback and the defense having to respect his ability. He puts defenders in the box and opens up the rest of the offense. I know AP was rushing 1.7 yards per carry last year before the injury, but what you didn't see was the Vikings passing attack was going off because people were making Sam Bradford beat them - which he did.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

I think he'd be a situational guy for us. I don't see him ending up here. In reality he probably was invited over so Payton can mask something for the draft. And if he does sign here, it'd probably have to be cheap.

On a side note...why isn't Peterson signed yet? Is he asking too much?

Reminds me of Steven Jackson. Has something left in his tank but can't stay healthy. I think the Saints have had enough of that.

Ingram doesn't play a full season. Who are we left with? AP would be killer for 3-4 games in a row. Or down the playoff stretch.

That actually had more to do with the Vikes' awful O-line play - none of their backs could get them to run block.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Big gamble. Lot a miles on AP. Also will put the the ball on the ground. 7 times in his last real season. He lost 3 of those but still. Unless it's a bargain bin salary no way. If we go that route I would rather pay for Latavius Murry if we have the coin. Real good overall RB. Better than Ingram IMO but he was in a clown car RB situation with the Raiders and he was not the clown.

Ironically Latavius Murray signed with the Vikings!

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Latavius is the the real deal. Probably the most solid overalll RB right now IMO. He can do it all and a much better pass catcher than he gets credit for.

It won't hurt a thing to kick on the Michelin's and discuss options.

Well run organizations always look for ways to become better.

As someone said 10 carries a game for AP is not gonna cut it.

The saints doing their due diligence this time of year should come as a surprise to no one... AP says he wants to play where he can contribute for a championship caliber team. He's visited New England, Seattle, and now us. He obviously holds us in high regard and the saints are going to respect him wanting to meet with us.

That said, I don't see us as his best option.

It seems like speed dating has come to the NFL :)

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Mark Ingram gets hurt every year. Unless y'all are ready to watch the Cadet/Lasco combo out of the backfield for the 2 to 6 games Ingram usually misses or is just ineffective in, I'd start giving AP a little more consideration.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

I'd love this too happen for the right money. Ingram is a fine player but has hardly ever gone 16 games and inly once gone over 1000 yards. AP went close to 1000 yards in 12 games a few years back and 1500 yards 2 years ago.

Its simple AP in the backfield. Are you gonna stack the box and give Drew one on one coverage for Thomas/Snead or you going to cover them and let AP run like he can.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Waste of time (and money if he's really expecting more than vet minimum.) The Saints have a better option with Ingram who's faster and can catch the ball. Find a RB in the draft and run with him. Shoot, the Saints are known for bringing in undrafted players and doing well with them. I don't understand why they're even thinking about bringing in Peterson.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Ingram always runs harder when he has competition. It makes him run angry.

We need to replace Hightower with someone who will push Ingram. Whether it's a Drafted player or AP doesn't matter to me. I'll let the FO put their plan in place.

darksoul35 04-07-2017 11:36 AM

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

I thought this dudes career was over many times and he keeps proving me wrong. If we have him replace Hightower than we are more likely to go more defense in the draft so I say if the price is right then come on down.

Should the Saints brain trust keep Joe Mixon's agent on speed dial if he is there in the 2nd round?

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Personally I think in order for the offense to be at it's most effective, we need to bring in a Pierre Thomas style running back. Run, catch, and pass block. AP is a great future HOFer but he seems too one-dimebsional for our offense.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

I guess Ingram will have to be a backup if he signs. Remember the fiasco in NYJ when LT at the edge of his career tried to share carries with Shon Greene. I don't trust AP with less carries a game.

Re: AP Coming for a visit???

Rumoured visit today isnt it?

If so we think he is signing or its sounding out for potential post draft?

Wouldn't mind going into the draft with AP and Porter on the books. Fills up the roster a bit more and no picking for need
