This is just a cover IMO. I doubt he'll make it to #11, and given the needs defensively, it'd be a stretch to move up to get him.

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

Pretty silly drafting a RB before 10 IMO. Odds of it working out are horrible, just the worse position to gamble on that high. I could see him dropping for sure.

IF he were there at #11 and you were calling the shots; what would you do?

I personally would still pass...

Depends on the rest of the board

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

I might do it at 11 if defenders are picked through pretty good. It would still be stupid but sometimes you have to roll the dice if somebody drops a few notches. The contracts also get much more favorable at 11 to teams.

I would wait for a later round and grab Mixon. I do like the thought of a bell cow though but at 11, no.

Why trade back if you are not getting decent value. Or if the players you like are not there. If he is the best option then take him

Probably the only chance to see him in a Saints jersey...

He's not in any scenario, period. Besides, he just wanted a free plane ride home for the night. He'll go no further than eight.

Likely but there are some issues. Injury, yoyo weight and not very good with cuts. The weight to me is a problem. Why show up to the biggest event of your life with it being a question. I mean he showed up much heavier than he ever played. Still did well but why even do it. He could have easily knocked it down 5lbs and nobody would have cared.

I'm not drafting a guy at 11 who I think has 5 good years in him.

He dominated at times. Reminded me of Bo Jackson too. But he's limited in a sense and comes with a ton of wear (see point #2) Was really only shut down by Bama and that's because 1) The D was able to key on him and 2) Les Miles is an idiot.

I like him at 32

Now we're talking sense...

Drafting in the top 15, I want a guy who's playing 10 years for my franchise, his rookie contract + option, and a four year extension deal with option...

Fournette is gonna be a power back who takes a lot of punishment...

Whereas, McCaffrey will be lining up in more positions with a little less punishment between the tackles...

He's got to be an uber defender if he's front seven...

Mostly QBs, X Receivers, stud offensive linemen and terrific DBs are what I'm looking to take in the top 15 unless they're a real special skill set; McCaffrey seems to be an exception this year...

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

Hell no. Unless we could trade him for a 15 or so pick in the first and get a 2nd. RB is pretty far back on our offensive list. Guard, WR, TE, RT, and even QB are more needed if we were to go offense. I don't think he's gonna be all that anyway.

Click bait.

What can I say, I'm an LSU alum so I wish LF all the best wherever he lands. When healthy, dude was a beast. Absolute beast.

I'd draft him in a heartbeat. Most likely he will be going to the Panthers at 8 thou and rush for 1200yds/year average for the next 10 years.

Something to entertain, LSU RB's have had some success in Black and Gold:

Hokie: Through 2015, he remains one of 19 NFL running backs to exceed six yards per carry in a (100 or more attempt) season.

Hilliard's most productive season came in 1989 when he rushed for 1,262 yards and scored 18 touchdowns.

Is LF better? Tea leaves are saying yes. Not really close. If he is there and you want to take a calculated gamble not a bad choice. We have certainly made worse choices. Won't help our D unless he keeps them off the field and keeps us from settling for FG's. It's the injuries though. Man has taken a severe beaten already. I do not believe he will last that long with his style. Fun to watch but long term looking like a flash in the pan.

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

Losing Hightower may force us to draft a back earlier than we wanted to ensure that we get a productive runner.

Especially if everyone hits him they way they do Cam. Yeah my fock draft has him going at eight.

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

A back with his style would take a lot of pressure off a young QB if we go to one in the next few years. I would love to have him but we have too many defensive needs.

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

Fournette should be a great NFL back; but why draft another bruiser when you know Payton and Brees are running Air Coryell?

Better fit will be Christian McCaffrey who'll be better in screens, draws, lining up outside, and the return game...

At least we can have a RB chewing up clock and still keeping Air Coryell flying high...

Not totally sold on McCaffrey, it's the durability thing I'm questioning. However, I think you're spot on about Fournette not being a good fit. We really don't smash mouth and we're not gonna as long as Payton's around. Sorry Smashmouth.

Wouldn't worry about durability myself. 5'11 200 plus pound. He's not a small man

If Payton has been talking about him (he has), we probably won't draft him. I remember last month SP stated "he's a great player, but will not play a full-time roll". Possible Pre draft chess match to scare others away.

With players like Fournette, sometimes I'm just afraid to miss out on what he could be. If all goes well for Fournette meaning his durability holds up and he plays to the level of his ceiling, he'll somewhere in the top 5 for all rushing statistics and be a Hall of Famer. On the other hand, injuries could hamper his career and cut it short never allowing him to live up to his potential. I just don't know if I could pass up rolling the dice. I'm a gambler.

Mitch, for the record I agree with you but I believe the Saints have some interest. I think the Saints will go BPA @ #11. If for some reason he is there, you take him. I also get it that we run zone blocking schemes, "blah, blah, blah". If the Saints showed interest in AP/Joe Mixon etc, then LF is someone that they would consider drafting.

As far as Ingram thing and "he deserves to be our starting RB", yada, yada ... football is highly competitive at this level. The best man wins the job. Who is to say LF or AP can't take Ingram's job?

Flame away.

We're not going to have a Hall of Fame rusher in the foreseeable future. It's just not who we are.

Re: Fournette and Saints rendevous

The new face of the franchise?

The saints would need to address all the issues on offense to make this work. He is a power back and SP offense is not built for the power run game. Get a RT to groom? A back up FB becomes a must. The Blocking skill set for the TE corp will have to improve.

What to do with Ingram is the next question. FA walk away? Trade down the road?

Add a 3rd down back as bigger need than we thought before the Fournette pick

Fournette would open up a whole new can of worms IMO.

Mixon would be a better fit for SP but will the saints go against their rules about avoiding players with major off the field issues? I just do not see it.

But damnnn what a good back he could possibly be. Would add a few years to Drew arm
