Get pressure and all our DB's get upgraded. I would take him but I don't think it helps that much. He's not a shutdown corner for sure.

For those of you fine with rookie CBs because "all we need is a pass rush" can you tell us where that pass rush is coming from? I mean we didn't have much of one last year. Are we relying on a rookie draft pick for that?

Agreed on this. A pass rush would be great but I would always prefer to have a good secondary. The patriots won a superbowl last year with a solid secondary and an inconsistent pass rush at best. Seattle is in the same boat these days. They still have a very good secondary but their d-line doesn't get pressure the way it used to.

Plus, our coaching staff hasn't really shown the ability to draft and coach up cornerbacks. So unless you're telling me we're going to draft the reincarnation of Deon Sanders or Charles Woodson (guys who can immediately come in and make plays) I would prefer to have butler.

Butler or even "the reincarnation of Deon Sanders or Charles Woodson" wouldn't help if the Saints don't have a pass rush. They'd get burned just like the other CBs.

I thought Aaron Glen did great coaching up the CBs the Saints brought in off the street last season.

That's true to a certain extent but there were plenty of plays last year where a pass rush wouldn't have helped because our secondary was letting guys get wide open almost immediately off the line or couldn't competently defense a pass (The crabtree play and the victor cruz play come to mind).

Cam Jordan was top 16 in the league last year with the number of hurries he created so that's pretty decent. On the other hand I can't think of anybody in our secondary that was in the top 20 of any defensive back category last year.

I need you to define great. Great as in he did the best he could with what he had or great as in his coaching lead to us having a productive secondary? I can only assume you mean the former and not the latter

The former. These guys did come in off the street. He couldn't make chicken salad out of chicken feed. But at times, not all the time mind you but at times the secondary was very productive. Think how good the secondary could be with competent CB play. I think he's a great DB coach.

Finally someone seen the light, Malcolm Butler worth is just as unpredictable as a high 3rd rd pick but more expensive. Malcolm don't face wr or qb like the talent in the NFC south. Sorry I doubted loomis intelligence.

I prefer the saints to get Taco or Derek & Obi with 1st rd. Cris Samuel 2nd rd. Fabian Moreau & Sidney Jones 3rd rd

Didn't Sidney Jones suffer a major injury? If the Saints drafted him he wouldn't be playing for them this season.

So you don't want Butler but you'd use a 1st round pick on Obi Melifonwu?!

What's the matter with Obi? Not being flip, a serious question. Some of you know more about these college player than I do.

He's not a bad player or anything like that... I just think he's being way overrated because of the great measurables. Elite athleticism but no instincts.

they can keep him for pennies on the dollar and get another ring or trade him for a kings ransom.

Yes, cheaper, younger, faster, taller, stronger and the 5th year option

We will have the depth to sit him for a year. Breaux, Williams, Moore, Crawley and hopefully Obi & Moreau

I think Malcolm is very overrated. People remember the saving interception but forget he was burnt that put the patriots in that predictament. What have Butler done since besides make a papa john's commercial? The patriots didn't use him to cover other teams number ones. He is a good corner within that scheme for the patriots and against AFC East.

Obi have no instinct? C'mon! No way you can come to that conclusion if you never seen the guy play. Here is his highlights

He did
He has been saying his surgeons are saying he will be back this year though. A first round talent in the late 2nd/3rd round is worth the risk. If the surgeons right start him on IR and bring him back in

Saints don't need that. They have enough of those.

Circle back to last year ... Coach Roushar and Aaron Glenn did a solid job. Even players at the elite level need proper polishing to refine their craft.

Coach em up!
