Re: Butler and the latest
Just take a good rookie with the 2/3rd pick of our draft. Wait a year and offer him a contract as a FA is the rookie isnt good enough to be start opposite Breaux. Get the pass rush sorted and the CB might look good
With the lack of pressure over the past few years they could have had Sanders,Champ Bailey back there at their peaks and they still have been roasted every game |

Re: Butler and the latest
If the Saints front office were willing to part ways with pick #32, I'm quite certain if would have been done by now. Credit to the decision makers on standing their ground. Based on the history of trades in the NFL, the only time you see 1st rounders traded in a situation like this is when a Quarterback is involved.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. |
Re: Butler and the latest
Stephone Anthony is still my #1 trade target for the pats
then again I did not see the cook deal coming. If it is pick 32 I will be @##@$$#^%%&*&(*)_ If they make the trade a FS is a huge need. Oh wait the saints never get complementary players to make pick ups like this work. never mind |

Re: Butler and the latest
#42 and a player that they covet possibly. I want to keep both of our first round draft picks so we have them under contract for five years at a reasonable rate. Also, we need to remember how well Aaron Glenn did with our corners last year. That man can flat out coach!
Why trade Cooks for Butler straight up? I don't like the idea of taking on Butler's contract when we can get a rookie relatively inexpensively. At #42 Butler has great value to us and would solidify the corner position. |

force the pats hand. pass this year and chase him in FA next year

Re: Butler and the latest
Any of you close enough to the team facilities to cut all incoming communication lines to the Saints facility. Also get some interference on Loomis phone. Make sure this trade does not happen pre draft
Thanks Lee |
Re: Butler and the latest
You guys will love to hear this...
Browns eye Myles Garrett, Mitch Trubisky in NFL Draft | The MMQB with Peter King • Whither Malcolm Butler? The Saints (picking 11, 32, 42, 76, 103 in the first three rounds) are still interested in Butler, but someone familiar with their thinking believes they are leaning toward keeping their first three picks. The Saints believe that their board between 25 and 75 has a slew of players capable of contributing immediately, with grades close to each other, and the thought of dealing one or more picks for Butler, then paying him a huge contract, is less attractive than it once seemed. |

At 42 Butler is a good get

Re: Butler and the latest
Sign and trade draft day. It's the only thing that makes sense in my mind now.
It all depends on those 25 to 75 prospects and how they fall during the draft. Not just for us, but for the Pats also. It would be foolish to give up anything this close to the draft. Wait to see what our true options are, THEN we make an informed decision. |

We have just found flexibility in the cap. You dont give that and a 4 year cheap deal up for a 12ml plus for a year CB. The problem is Butler is a small CB. He doesn't shadow the best WR from what i can see. He isnt a turnover machine either. Yeah he is good and solid but has had issue with big WR and this is not the division to habe them issues in. For me id happily pay him next year as a FA but giving up a cheap 4 year contract for a 27 year old non shut down corner is not good business imo |
Re: Butler and the latest
42 and a clause that says Brady plays week 2 left-handed

Butler is only on the books for under 4ml. They'll happily keep him if the right offers not there

Re: Butler and the latest
I see getting a sure thing at 42 as a win for the Saints. We have been historically BAD on Defense . The fact that Butler is 27 is overblown he will be a day one upgrade to a needy secondary . No rookie short of Deion Sanders is guaranteed to do that. We are getting a Pro Bowl player at a critical need. Make the deal at 42 and move on. If the Pats way no Cie la Vie
|
Re: Butler and the latest
Do that and welcome to more years on no cap space for upcoming years. Youll still need to either pay Breaux or draft a replacement in a year either way. Better getting some of the better and taller CB in the draft. Butler is never going to match up well to the huge receivers in the South
|
Re: Butler and the latest
Sanders? I thought we wanted someone who could tackle...
|
Re: Butler and the latest
use the pics... they are more cap friedly. A CB isn't going to help us. If you don't get a pass rush it doesn't matter who you put at CB eventually the WR will get open.

There's nothing else out there, and it fills an immediate need. Butler has had his ego checked in the past month and knows he isn't getting 13 a year. We are carrying $13 million in dead money this year, so that number drops, and next year, and Loomis will redo some deals and recoup some more. We are fine |

50M for butler? No thanks, I'm still trying to get over Jairus Byrd's 56M contract.
They need to realise we do better with the low key, low cost signings. |
Re: Butler and the latest
