With the First pick in the NFL 2005 Draft, The San Francisco
From Utah, Qb Alex Smith..
He has a 2 inch size advantage over Rodgers, He threw for 28 TD's and ran in 10 more... The first Heisman Trophy finalist in school history, Smith led the Utes to an unbeaten 12-0 season He also had the second-best passing efficiency mark (174.9) in the nation That's pretty impresive...He will do well in the NFL, and possibly make the Niners a legitimate threat within a year or two... |

Ditto or the Rivers idea is also very tempting.

If the Niners do use the first pick-and the jury\'s still out on that-they\'ll take Aaron Rodgers of Cal. He\'s local-that puts butts in the seats-he\'s always wanted to be a Niner and the local media has already decided that\'s who the team needs to take. I live in Northern California so trust me on this.
This, of course, is if they use the pick. I\'m not convinced they won\'t trade down. They need help everywhere, most notably offensive line and the secondary, and if they get the right deal they may be willing to trade. Granted, they\'re still in cap trouble but valuewise they may be able to fix some problems with the money they\'d be spending on Rodgers alone or whomever their first pick would be. Frankly, if I were them, I\'d try to stockpile some choices for next year when, on the surface anyway, the draft looks to be much more deep and I\'ve got more money to deal with. But in reality I\'m a Saints fan who hates the Niners so I hope they screw it up rightiously. |

Just for the record, I\'d take Smith over Rodgers too. But I don\'t think that\'s what they\'re gonna do...

So then, so far it\'s 4-2 in favor of Smith?..

They\'ll take Rodgers for every reason blake6900 said. The only thing that was hurting Rodgers was some questioned his size, but he measured out at 6\'2\" at the combine, so that helped his status.
