Some guys make immediate impacts, while others might take a year or so, but there are diamonds in the rough among free agents. |

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
Wasn't Snead? And Tommylee the Flea made the team last year. And wasn't Coleman? Hey there's lots of stuff out there. Sometimes they're like PT, sometimes they never make it to the 53. But sometimes they make the team and turn out to be solid!

I always prefer our UDFA class over our picks in the 5th through 7th rounds (with some exceptions, obviously). They draft guys who either barely played, or have some kind of major issues in the late rounds, and then suddenly, when the draft is over, they find productive college players. I've always believed in production over "upside", unless the player with upside has actually demonstrated an ability on the field and not just gone to the combine and run all kinds of pointless drills, and wowed scouts, while having been extremely lackluster on the field. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

See my most recent post here and you will see what I mean. Snead was not UDFA for us, he was a brown first.

PT and Lance Moore were picked up when? Who have we gotten that's been a contributor to the team since Ireland came on? Ireland is not good at picking the UDFAs like Pace and Reese were. We traded UDFA value for Draft value.

Of course you aren't going to strike gold every single year. But you can't just say they're all "PS fodder", as if none of them have any chance. History proves you wrong. |

Pace has been in Chicago for a few years now. How's that going? You want him back here scouting for us? Nobody has a propensity for landing UDFA gems. It's just something that happens, or it doesn't. Yet you want to poo poo any discussion of UDFA'S now, while giving credit to some guy who's in Chicago bombing with some truly mystifying decisions. |
