Saints way to early 2018 NFL Draft

Saints way to early 2018 NFL Draft

Just when you thought it was over :p

First thing first. Drew re ups

Second High Risk/High Rewards players pay off.

Third the saints do not stink up the joint in 2017

20 - 25 Vita Vea, DT, Washington 6041 332 5.19 #50 rJr
Saints learn their lesson and finally get an agile space-eating dominant force in the trenches. One who excels at stuffing the run and keeping the LB clean and freeing up the rest of the DL. Vastly under rated for pushing the pocket on passing downs. He is a bigger version of Kiwann Short (6027 299 5.08 ) and will live up to what Star Lotulelei was suppose to become. Love this kids motor for such a big man

Mason Rudolph, QB Oklahoma State 6036 235 4.77 #2 Sr
Mason is hard to over look here

2 - Trade San Fran

3 - Dorance Armstrong DE Kansas 6036 245 4.70 #2 Jr
I like him better than Jordan Willis so keep an eye on him. first-round landing spot for this wrecking ball?

4- Frank Ragnow C/OG,Arkansas 6052 319 5.14 #72 Sr
Developing a replacement for Max Unger (31) works out well. Max will be FA in 2020. Frank is an upgrade in training to Senio Kelemete. Run blocking is excellent but pass protection needs some work.

5- Josh Sweat*, DE, Florida State 6046 236 4.73 #9 Jr
Youth movement continues

6- JK Scott, P, Alabama 6045 202 4.76 #15 Sr
A proven kicker with the uncanny ability to pin teams inside the 10 more than any other P in the past few years and leg enough to play the field position game.

Thomas Morstead is 31 and a free agent in 2018.

7- God only knows
Cedric Wilson WR Boise St 6016 4.49 #1 Sr
Ka'Raun White, WR West Virginia 6012 198 4.51 #2 rSr

Player Watch

Tyquan Lewis, DE, Ohio State 6032 260 4.78 # 59 rSr

Despite the lack of love he made great strides in his all around game.

Kyzir White SS/OLB West Virginia 6025 215 4.56 #8 Sr
Talk about a wrecking ball. He can hit, fly all around the field, and just make plays. Karl Joseph JR?

Early Bold Predictions:

If Ryan Ramcyzk proves to be the goods like I believe he will, Terron Armstead or Andrus Peat will be traded, Saints aren't keeping three starting left tackles on the roster...

If the Angel of Salary Cap Death, Brees' agent, is allowed, he will gobble up all remaining salary cap money and Kenny Vaccaro may walk in Free Agency...

And we will select a quarterback on Day 1 which is the highest we've selected since Archie Manning in 1971, Round 1, Pick No. 2 or Dave Wilson in the 1981 Supplemental Draft with a first round tender...

I think Peat is a guard now and going forward. I think thats how he will be paid too.

No, Peat is a left tackle playing out of position at guard and I guarantee you he and his agent will make the decision to leave to get LT money...

Peat is a guard, and ramcyck will be a RT, so I believe your theory is flawed. Also history has shown that the saints pay more for there inside lineman compared to the rest of the nfl. I dont think money will be the issue

Oh heck no do not go here. finally have what appears to be the makings of an OL that can play together for years. youth movement baby

Terron Armstead 25
Andrus Peat 23
Max Unger 31
Larry Warford 25
Ryan Ramczyk 22

Need youth in training behind Unger that can swing at OG also. This is why I liked Ethan Pocicso much.

this year I am watching
Frank Ragnow C/OG,Arkansas 6052 319 5.14 #72 Sr

Andrus Peatis stuck as a guard till after his fifth year option.

I see no rush to mess with the OL

Well, first of all, WR Brandin Cooks was by all appearances a class act professional, staged a tirade that got himself traded because he didn't like the career path with the Saints...

Now why does no one think that Peat and his agent couldn't employ the same strategy?

What I'm saying is it would be prudent to draft a guard(s) for contingency...

Second, not sold on Warford; this seems like a Grubbs redux, Saints short-dimed it on All-Pro Carl Nicks and the running game was not the same once Grubbs was inserted...

Really belive we'll regret Loomis not closing the deal on Zeitler; and now, we could have two potential question marks at Guard after this season because of it...

We'll wait and how we see things play out, but I'd start scouting Offensive Guard(s) heavily...

From the film I've seen on Warford, he is pretty stout in his ZBS and he'll do fine here. Putting him between two of the better pass blockers in the league in Strief/Unger will mask his deficiencies a bit. Warford is younger, bigger, cheaper than the big Kahuna (Zietler), and who knows... might end up being better.

jeanpierre 05-11-2017 04:47 AM

Re: Saints way to early 2018 NFL Draft

Well, there's the old adage that if you fail to learn from your history, you're doomed to repeat it.

And there are strikingly similar parallels to the when the Saints let Nicks walk and signed Grubbs.

Warford may be fine with Strief and Unger (eventually) on either side of him, then why spend that money?

Why couldn't Loomis do his job and just spend a bit more as he's good at and get a difference maker in Zeitler?

jeanpierre 05-11-2017 05:23 AM

Re: Saints way to early 2018 NFL Draft

Well, hopefully the Saints will be drafting very late in Round 1 as a result of their successful 2017 season...

If they haven't fixed the pass rush their are two prospects I've already targeted for the 2018 draft...

DE Sam Hubbard, Ohio St.; Height: 6' 5", Weight: 266 lbs.

Why the Saints? Payton loves Ohio State. Hubbard is a true base end for a 4-3. He's makes impact plays.

DE Bradley Chubb, NC State; Height: 6' 4", Weight: 275 lbs.

Why the Saints? New DL coach Ryan Nielsen coached him at NC State. Again, he's a true 4-3 base end. Last year 10.5 sacks and of his 58 tackles from the end position, 22 were for loss!

DE Marcel Frazier, Missouri; Height: 6' 4", Weight: 265 lbs.

Why the Saints? IF LSU is DB University, then Missouri is DE University and these DEs have a high floor. Frazier played the strong side and was really putting it together by season's end. The 2017 season should see a nice progression from Frazier.

DE Porter Gustin, USC; Height: 6' 5", Weight: 266 lbs.

Why the Saints? Faces elite OTs in practice and in the Pac 10 playing for USC. When watching his tape, reminds me of Howie Long (when Long would play DE). Hasn't finished growing yet! Kid is an absolute monster and if he makes the leap, should see his stock soar.

Okay, so I'm focused on DE, let me throw this out there...

DB Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bama; Height: 6' 1", Weight: 205 lbs.

Why the Saints? If LSU is DB Univ and Mizzou is DE Univ, Bama is First Round Univ (well, mostly). This kid literally takes a way half the field and the only problem you'll have is whether you play him at CB or Safety.

LB Jack Cichy, Wisconsin; Height: 6' 2", Weight: 235 lbs.

Why the Saints? Really, really starting to like this Wisconsin team where they're not afraid to not only play, but start Walk-Ons! Reminds me of a Pro Team in the NFC South. Kid can flat out cover from the LB position.

If they failed to address the pass rush this season it will be because of the interior not getting the push it needed. I'm keeping a close eye on Fairley. I think we could have gotten a big run stuffing NT to go along with Davison and Rankins and been much better off. If this front line fails this season it will be because of Allens miscue at judging the front line. Might be a very interesting season with this years D.

2018 Saints Top Draft Needs:

(2) Tight End

(4) Defensive End

(5) Wide Receiver

Obviously very fluid between now and the draft, but this is where I'd say we currently are...

Derrius Guice RB LSU 5106 222 4.53 #5 Jr

Running Back, in the first?!? And with no second round pick?!?

You got your RB a year early my ole friend...

And how can you say Fumagalli is overrated?!? He was MVP in the Cotton Bowl...

He broke LSU's defense wide open in the 2016 season opener?!? Every catch went for a first down, extending drives!!! You know, what we paid Fleener to do?!?
