Lets start with not losing our top DBs to injury before the season really gets going first, then we'll go from there.

Let alone the fact that coaches that were not improving the Def line and LB corps for years are no longer collecting paychecks. Lets see how the new coaches change things up to get the most out of the players on the team this year.

Also, how about Peat finally be worthy of a 1st round pick this season to be the solution he was meant to be. And the 32nd pick overall, maybe, just maybe he'll prove his worth too. Then the RBs that some think we didn't need to pick up help to balance the offense out thusly easing the pressure on the often questioned Def.

Lets see how things unfold and if things finally go the Saints way this season regarding injuries.

Also, that "loon" you love to bash....how did it go the year of his suspension???

The same record as the other non-playoff years with him as HC. But that season had no preparation for a new coach's scheme and the whole trial interfered. I don't care about 2012 and will not blame his suspension on three straight 7-9 seasons. With Brees around, there probably is not a better HC but SP did make stupid decisions to put the team in this hole.

I look at stats all the damn time. And I am big into baseball so whoops!

Re: Damn you Payton!

I don't need to post stats for 2013. We saw the defense play well. Corey White was playing well after Greer got hurt. We held Seattle to 3 straight field goals until the penalty and missed FG that led to Seattle scoring, and we were in position to tie that drive. Our defense played as well as they could in those conditions in a tough place to play. We allowed 13 points to Carolina to lose the division title. Our oline in road games gave us 5 losses.

Re: Damn you Payton!

Prnalties also........The big play by meachem that he caught the ball that went over a defender and he could not punch it in. We were at the endzone and penalties pushed us back and it led to a missed FG by Graham. That's when the game got out of hand.

I may be late to the party here. Anyone else remember someone named billy something or other years ago? Seems like that dude was always causing trouble. Will == Billy ???

Screwed our defenses with his crap trying to be like Seattle.

Completely neglected the oline position.

The fans are divided and I'm not sure where I stand because of this loon on the sideline.

We have one of the best olines in the league. Try again.

Really?

2014-Goodwin, grubbs, injured Evans. center a big issue that offseason

2015-Evans, Lelito, Streif. guards a big issue that offseason

2016-Evans in some cases, Lelito/Kelemete. Right guard was a issue and then during season Left guard became a issue with Peat manning LT.

The oline took a step forward last year, but before that the oline struggled the two years before.

I don't even know why I'm responding but here it goes. We have had a top 5 offense for the past 10 years in a row. Last year drew again threw for right at 5000 yards and led the league. Our avg at best rn, MIA ran for over 1000 yards and had a really good avg. you seem to be caught up in big names. Just because we don't have a ton of top name players in the online doesn't mean they are not any good.

Our oline has been a problem. Even Hagan, JP will back me on that. So what our offense has been top five. I'm sick and tired of stats more than watching the actual games. I have been on the chats and forum every week for the games and I certainly have seen many things wrong with the oline. Big names? Who said big names? Lelito and Kelemete both had different blocking skills. One was ok with pass, other with run. Brees is 6'0 he needs to have a perfect oline to see down the field.
Our oline is why we lost the division in 2014(because we didn't need to have good defense to win division at 8-8), defense was bad but we held Atlanta to nothing for almost an entire first half before the wheels fell off. Then in 2015, there were bad offensive showings against Arizona, Philadelphia, Indy(run game won that), Washington(or not if SP tanked that), Houston, Carolina(before 2nd half), and Detroit(before 4th). I don't recall 09-11 Brees having that many bad offensive games a season.

Next year we are lucky to have the only aggressive pass rushing team with a good run defense off a bye week and play mostly strong secondaries that lack pass rush or pass rushers with bad run defenses. However, the defense is in a position to need to be god-like against Brady, Rodgers, and Cousins to win those games.

WillSaints81 05-20-2017 11:19 AM

Re: Damn you Payton!

To be honest, even if the saints defense improves, the one area they have not had to deal with is in crunch time situations where they play good defense all game long but still the other team has a chance to score and tie or win the game and it's a team notable for winning those kinds of games. First step is improving through three quarters. But QBs have never had to adjust against us yet because our defense has been bad. No way can we be a 20 point-scoring or less team against elite teams.

I dont care who agrees with you. The stats dont lie. Top 5 offense, bottom 5 defense. Defense is the problem not the O-line

You can't talk sense to a nonsensical mind. He can not separate fantasy from reality. I am big into FF also but I have been a Saints fan way before I even thought about FF. He wasn't a fan when we were crap, he jumped on the bandwagon when we started winning. Now he thinks he knows all the problems and how to fix things by looking at fantasy numbers.

Re: Damn you Payton!

Will needs an education on what a real defense can do:
The Dome Patrol for the fantasy bandwagoner

Quote:

Rickey Jackson was drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 1981 NFL draft.[1] He was the first member of the unit; he played five seasons and was invited to three Pro Bowls before the Dome Patrol was formed.[1] The team did not have a winning record in any of those seasons.[2] In 1985, the Saints defense gave up over 25 points per game, which was seventh worst in the league.[3] In 1986, the Saints selected outside linebacker Pat Swilling in the third round of the draft and acquired middle linebackers Vaughan Johnson and Sam Mills from the recently folded United States Football League (USFL).[4][5][6] Also arriving from the USFL was head coach Jim Mora.[7] The defense improved to seventh best in points allowed per game in 1986, allowing an average of 17.9 points.[8] In 1987, the team finished with a 12–3 record,[a] posting the first winning record in franchise history as well as its first playoff appearance.[10] The Saints ranked fourth in points allowed per game in 1988 and went 10–6, but missed the playoffs after finishing third in a strong NFC West division.[11]

The team made the playoffs three straight seasons from 1990 to 1992. Three members of the Dome Patrol were named to the Pro Bowl in 1991, and Swilling was named the Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 17 sacks and forcing six fumbles.[12][13] The Saints defense surrendered the least points of any defense in the league that season and forced the most turnovers.[14] In week three of the season, the Saints defense held the Los Angeles Rams to 120 yards and six first downs, and recorded five sacks in a 24–7 win. "The Dome Patrol really rolled today," said Swilling after the game. "Sam Mills, Rickey Jackson, Vaughan Johnson and me. We got it on, didn't we?"[15] The 1991 season also saw the Saints win their first division title, as they finished first in the NFC West.[7]

All four members were invited to the Pro Bowl for 1992.[16] This remains the only time in NFL history that four players at the same position for the same team have made a Pro Bowl together.[13] Again the defense surrendered the least points in the league, and were second in yards given up.[17] Swilling was the first to leave the Saints after the 1992 season, in a trade to the Detroit Lions, followed by Jackson and Johnson in 1993 and Mills in 1994.[7] Overall, the Dome Patrol combined for 18 Pro Bowls and ten All-Pro selections and made four playoff appearances.[2]
