1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke

Need a good laugh?
Who doesn't these days, what with Monument Armageddon and the disillusioning week on Capitol Hill? The growing local comedy scene is always a good outlet to blow off steam. Or you could just check out the contract Adrian Peterson signed with the New Orleans Saints. Talk about the theater of the absurd. This might be the funniest document we've seen in New Orleans since the Three Rs filed their interdiction suit against Tom Benson. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...6737-large.jpg By now, you know Peterson, the former Vikings Pro Bowl running back, signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Saints last month. What you might not know are the details of the deal, which includes an extra $6.5 million in incentive bonuses. Incentive bonuses are common in NFL contracts. They're used so often that the NFL Players Association divides them into two types for accounting purposes: Likely To Be Earned (LTBEs); and Not Likely to be Earned (NLTBEs). Basically, Peterson can roughly double his take-home pay if he rushes for a lot of yards, scores a lot of touchdowns and the Saints make a deep postseason run. If he rushes for 750 yards next season, he'll receive a $150,000 bonus. If he tops 1,000 yards, it's $250,000. A 1,250-yard rushing season nets him an extra $750,000 and if he runs for 1,500 yards, it's an extra $1 million. read more on NOLA |

If he helps us win a Superbowl, I don't care if Tom Benson pays him 10 Million.

He's pretty much playing for one last shot at glory. Almost nothing to do about money at this point. I could see him hitting all those checkpoints..sacrificing his body, just playing lights out.

Stranger things have happened. What if Brees or our receiving weapons get hurt and we have to rely heavily on the running game and Peterson somehow regains his old form? Yes the odds of hitting the top incentives are pretty low but may have helped coax AP to sign with us. If he somehow reaches them it's a win-win because AP will be getting some extra dough and we will be the talk of the league if AP is playing like that. Seems like a pretty fair deal to me, don't get the hate.

Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
I am missing the "absurd" part.
Hightower had 550 yards and 4 TD's. A healthy AP can't get 750 or 1000? One complaint about Ingram is that he can't get in the end zone., so AP will definitely see more touches inside the 5. Not saying he'll get 10 TD's, but it's not as absurd as saying it's absurd |
Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
The only joke I see is this article. Clearly written for click bait. The incentives are not only good for AP they are reasonably priced for the Saints.
I fully expect him to grab the 750 yards bonus if healthy, after that who knows. BS article from NOLA, I'm shocked (I'm not). |
Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
I could totally see Ingram being RB2. There was some distance between him and Hightower but that gap is smaller now. If carries are split, a healthy AP is going to pull ahead.

I could see him as C-3PO but not RB2. Bobba Fett, maybe! I wonder if AP shops at A&P?

AP changes the game plan. On 3rd&1 we don't have to throw the football. He will easily get those extra yards. One guy that can have monster season because of AP is Ted Ginn. There will be a lot of play action shots. Just catch the damn football.

Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
Speaking of Ginn Jr as the number two outside receiver against Arizona last year, he caught for only less than 40 yards.
Meanwhile Kenny Stills for Miami as the number two outside receiver with the same specialty as Ginn caught for over 90 and a TD. Cooks IN ARIZONA caught for over 180 and two TDs. Don't get me started on Chris Hogan week 1. Arizona struggled last year against effective offenses with number two receivers on the outside. The ones that like Ginn were stopped were Britt, T Smith, whoever was opposite Marshall with jets after Decker went down(Smith?), and Kearse. All of those were either terrible receivers or on bad offenses. I guess this could come down to it being Cam's lack of accuracy or Ginn's inconsistency. I really hope Evans is right about AP being our starter because putting the pressure on AP to rack up needed yards everytime he is handed the ball is a failed too many times strategy. |

He caught 5 of 6 for 53 yards with a long of 16... You really should do more research before you spout off... |
Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
He's not gonna get 1500 yards because we're not building our offense around a running game much less a running back.

It will be very good for the Saints if AP reaches any of these incentives.I don't understand why any can wouldn't want to take a chance on a future hall of fame RB as a backup RB .
Peterson is generational talent who has proven an ability to defy the odds when recovering from injury and be hyper productive. This is a low risk gamble that pay huge dividends if it hits. If he bombs the Saints really don't suffer much. If he is75% of his former self? |
Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
1,500 yards? 10 TDs?
Mark Ingram 1,000 and 10 TD barring major injury and a full 16 games, which is rare Peterson 750 and 10 TD works also 20 rushing TD would be a huge from these two. add in a few from Khun and others and we are talking a totally new game for teams defense in the red zone schemes against us. |

He can get 1500. Ingram is a good RB but lacks some skills AP has even at 32. Mainly vision and raw power. AP will be the starter come week 2 or 3 if both are healthy. Mark my word; Ingram will become Hightower.

I wonder if in 2018 the saints will go after one of the top RB in a strong draft class.
1. Saquon Barkley RB Penn State* 5106 223 4.33 #26 2. Derrius Guice RB LSU 5106 222 4.53 #5 Jr 3. Ronald Jones RB/KR USC* 5116 195 4.49 #25 Jr 4. Bo Scarbrough RB Alabama 6012 228 4.55 #9 rJr 5. Nick Chubb RB Georgia 5095 228 4.54 #27 Sr I can not wait to see Derrius Guice next year as the featured back. |
Re: 1,500 yards? 10 TDs? Adrian Peterson's 'incentives' are a joke
If Evans says AP is starting, maybe he knows something we don't know. And maybe the FO actually see's that Ingram(which I now realize the offense is bad if the run game falters, which is on Ingram) can't beat every defense and that only holds back the offense in his bad games.
