Sporting News: Breaking down new-look Saints: Pressure to win met with smart offseason moves

Finally, a reporter who has taken the honest time to a) critique the Saints on what they've been the past three seasons and, b) analyze the latest off-season moves, acquisitions...

However, the story is focused on player acquisitions and fails to mention coaching changes which is the big elephant in the room everyone is overlooking...

Well, he did mention the change in special team's coaching (Banta), but you are correct, JP. The impact from the removal of Vitt and Johnson and the addition of Nolan and Nielsen may be greater than any actual player move this off-season.

We still have Dan Dalrymple and the horrendous cast of strength and conditioning coaches/medical staff. I'm hoping the new coaching doesn't end up being spent on street free agents by week 3.

Our defense needs to own 3rd down. The previous three year average has N.O. finishing DEAD LAST in opponent 3rd down rate (54% conversion). https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/sta...conversion-pct

Cam Jordan says he needs help behind the line (CBs) and I believe him.

That was the past three years. This has been addressed BIG TIME with the additions to the secondary and also factor in Aaron Glenn's second season as the secondary coach what he can do to help what is now an extremely talented group of DB's.

Not much a strength and conditioning coach can do to prevent most injuries these days since they have been severely limited on player contact under the new CBA. Strength and conditioning has been moved into the player's court. That has to be done in the off-season.

Speaking of strength & conditioning ... will this guy (Manti Te'O) emerge as a leader at camp & stay healthy?? Big question mark for me.

I've been wondering just how much our conditioning program needs to be tweaked. I hope that the team isn't still doing the work out program Payton used to drop the weight while he was suspended.

New coaching for our players= more wins........hopefully.
